POLL: Which X-Men Should Return in Deadpool 3?
Back in 2000, mutants took to the silver screen and super hero cinema was never the same. Before Spider-Man or the Avengers, the X-Men were a cinematic phenomenon. In sleek leather uniforms and with intriguing updates, this version of Marvel’s mutants was a huge deal.
Now, when Deadpool returns in this summer’s Deadpool 3, it’s confirmed that Wolverine will be joining the Merc with a Mouth. Deadpool has always been tied to mutants. In his first two films, he worked closely with Cable, Colossus, and the delightfully dark Negasonic Teenage Warhead. And all of the following mutants have special connections with Wolverine. So who else might appear? Only time will tell, but here are a few possibilities.
Storm
Storm is undoubtedly one of the most iconic and well-loved faces of the X-Men. She has grown from a pickpocketing orphan to an Omega-level mutant whose power tames entire planets. Plus, Storm has remained a central figure in the majority of the team’s most important eras. If the X-Men were to return in Deadpool 3 in any capacity, especially considering her deep friendship with Wolverine, it only makes sense Storm would be included.
Jean Grey
Alongside Ororo Munroe, Jean Grey is one of the X-Men’s most famous figures — some might even say infamous. Jean Grey is one of the founding members of the X-Men and over the years she matured from a shy telekinetic to one of the Multiverse’s most powerful psychic forces. Plus, her love triangle with Wolverine and Scott Summers has always added to the mutant team’s drama. However, it’s Jean’s innate power that makes her so important to the X-Men. Her very existence is intricately tied to the Phoenix Force, making Jean a volatile player in Marvel history.
Cyclops
Wherever Jean Grey goes, Cyclops is never far behind — especially when Wolverine is also in the fray. Cyclops is the original field leader of the X-Men, and over the years he and Wolverine have clashed on many issues. But when all is said and done, Scott Summers is the respected tactician behind most of the X-Men’s exploits. In addition to his influential mutant family and the way he has stepped in for Professor X as a leader of mutantkind, Cyclops is without question the face of the X-Men team.
Professor X
Ah, good ol’ Chuck. As the mutant who started it all, Professor Charles Xavier has been many things to his team — father figure, mentor, boss, and even betrayer. He has always had a soft spot for Logan and his ever-changing moral compass lends fascinating depth to the mutant’s plight against humanity. Including Professor X would give a sense of gravitas to Deadpool 3 as well as a chance for Wade Wilson to finally get his sought-after status as an X-Man.
Rogue
She might be full of sweet Southern sugah but make no mistake — Rogue is as tough as they come. In the comics, she and Wolverine share that in common. On the big screen, they also shared a unique bond as two outcasts brought into a big mutant family. The films depicted Rogue’s earlier years when she was mostly a pawn for the plans of villains. But if she were to appear in Deapdool 3, that would be a chance to showcase the way this dynamic character evolved over the years into an absolute powerhouse.
Mystique
Speaking of Rogue, her adoptive mother, Mystique, is another mutant who could return in Deadpool 3. Fans have always been drawn to her cunning instincts and instantly recognizable persona. But she also shares a past with Wolverine alongside Sabretooth. As one of the central figures in most live-action X-Men media, bringing Mystique back would be a bold choice that could lead to a number of compelling storylines with this self-serving assassin.
Magneto
Magneto’s history with the X-Men is complicated, both when it comes to his longtime frenemy Charles Xavier and his opposing philosophy on mutant survival. Over the years, Magneto and Wolverine have squared off in many epic confrontations in which Wolverine’s healing abilities are put to the test as Magneto uses his Adamantium against him. Mutantkind’s past and future will always involve Magneto. Could Max Eisenhardt once again test the X-Men’s mettle?
X-23
Debuting in the animated series X-Men: Evolution, Laura Kinney (AKA X-23) has undergone a lot of character growth. She is a clone artificially created from Wolverine’s DNA, making their family connection and her super hero legacy extremely tense. Recently in the comics, she has worked on the main X-Men team as well as surviving a pocket dimension time warp to return as Talon. On the big screen, she appeared in the critically acclaimed film Logan. Given her close connection to Wolverine and the positive audience reaction to her live-action version, X-23 could be a great choice for the upcoming Deadpool adventure.
Marvel’s Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on July 26, 2024. This highly anticipated entry into the MCU will no doubt have a lasting impact on the comic book franchise.
