Everybody knows the Dynamic Duo. And as a super DC fan, you’ve surely heard of The Trinity. There’s even an iconic ongoing comic book for the World’s Finest team-up from Batman and Superman.

But the Justice League is home to many different super heroes — which means the combinations of powers and personality can really strike gold. Who are the best duos of the Justice League? 5. Zatanna and John Constantine

Magic is in the air — but so is misfortune and doomed love. Whenever one of these spellcasters appears on the scene, the other is often not far behind. Their fates are eternally intertwined since John Constantine is (accidentally) responsible for the death of Zatanna’s father, John Zatara. For most people, that would be enough to cause irreparable damage. But in the world of sorcery, things can’t be as black and white as Zatanna’s suit.

This duo is the one you want to root for despite all the odds against them. When they’re good, they’re enchanting. Zatanna has often functioned as a stabilizing force for John and likewise, he’s used his arcane knowledge to save her. They have fought together on Justice League Dark and faced immeasurable eldritch horrors  and supernatural phenomena. Still, their combined chaos is often just too much to be entirely reliable. Their will-they-or-won’t-they factor prevents them from being placed any higher among these other DC duos.

4. Green Arrow and Black Canary

Chemistry counts for a lot and these two have been together for many decades now. Through the good, the bad, and the time travel, Green Arrow and Black Canary have stuck by each other. Oliver Queen’s son Connor even once pointed out that it’s hard to find a timeline where Oliver and Dinah Lance aren’t in love with each other. Given how infinite the DC Omniverse is, that’s really saying quite a lot.

However, that’s not to imply that Oliver and Dinah are a perfect couple. Actually they have had a troubling amount of ups and downs over the years. Their attraction to each other was nearly immediate when both joined early versions of the Justice League. They soon began dating and the rest is Green Canary history. But they have also faced infidelity, infertility, and murder. Dinah left Oliver when he killed Prometheus right before the Blackest Night event. Years later, Dinah would be forced to kill Oliver on their wedding night — but don’t worry, it was only an imposter! Despite all the issues, these two always find a way to return to each other. Cupid didn’t miss when he led Green Arrow to his pretty bird, Black Canary.

3. Green Lantern and The Flash

Nearly every iteration of The Flash and Green Lantern become friends. Whether it’s Wally West and Kyle Rayner or Barry Allen and Hal Jordan, the red and the green light up comic book panels like a Christmas tree. Even their Justice Society of America versions, Jay Garrick and Alan Scott, are good friends! It helps that these two heroes have some of the strongest legacy lines among DC super heroes. They were the biggest stars of DC’s Golden Age super hero team.

Since then, Flash and GL have even come to share a book title, The Brave and the Bold. Their friendship often borders on rivalry, not only because of their characters’ light-hearted natures, but also the precarious positions they hold as legacy heroes and second-in-line to superstars like Bruce, Wonder Woman, and Kal-El. Still, Speedsters and Lanterns always seem to stick together. Even when The Flash did the unthinkable and killed Reverse-Flash, Green Lantern stood by his friend and served as a character witness in court. If your BFF doesn’t support you at your lowest, are they even a BFF at all?

2. Batman and Superman

Since 1941, Batman and Superman have leaped across comic book pages together. DC’s Dark Knight and the Man of Tomorrow are polar opposites in many ways. One super hero lives for the night. The other is literally fueled by the sun. Yet their binary natures have proven to be a winning combination. Opposites really do attract!

Bruce Wayne, in his persona as Batman, is gruff and unforgiving. He uses fear to take down his enemies. Superman, who moonlights as the charming, bumbling Clark Kent, always appeals to people’s inner moral compass. But Batman also has a strict moral code, which is likely something he admires about Kal-El. Likewise, Superman probably sees the hero he sometimes wishes to be, someone who is unrelenting and harsh. Like the best of friends, their strengths lift the other up and their weaknesses find support in each other. When Robin came of age and stopped being a sidekick, he even looked to a Kryptonian myth for inspiration to become Nightwing. Throughout alternate universes and reality-ending catastrophes, Batman and Superman remain the World’s Finest pair of Justice Leaguers.

1. Booster Gold & Blue Beetle

When it comes to super hero best friends, the most iconic and celebrated DC duo is Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Together, they brought plenty of fun to the Justice League and its affiliated teams. They constantly came up with harebrained schemes and elaborate pranks amid all the heroics. At times, their silly behavior even cost them the respect of their fellow heroes. But you can’t put a price on fun!

Hailing from the distant future, Michael Jon Carter admired the heroes of the 20th century. Admittedly he didn’t have a lot of purpose in his own life. So that’s why he stole museum artifacts and found his way back to his heroes, slowly establishing himself as a worthy super-powered figure. Likewise, Ted Kord followed in the footsteps of another, as the second Blue Beetle. In their quest to become big-name heroes, these two often hatched endless get-rich-quick plans. After Ted’s death, Booster Gold then helped Jaime Reyes become the next Blue Beetle. Even in death, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle’s best friendship is powerful.
