The 6 Strongest Spider-Heroes (& Villains) in Marvel Comics

In Marvel comics, the Great Totems maintain the Web. These multiversal supernatural entities select avatars to protect all worlds. Sometimes, these deities can even manifest independently. The Great Weaver, the Gatekeeper, the Other, the Bride, the Scion, and the Patternmaker tend to choose avatars over anything else, though. They grant their avatars incredible powers that have amazed audiences for ages.

But as the Spider-Heroes evolve and engage in death-defying, Earth-shattering combat, many readers want to know: Who is the strongest Spider-Man? Or Spider-Woman? If they were all to face each other, who would emerge the victor?

6. Ghost-Spider/Gwen Stacy is intelligent and agile

Gwen Stacy doesn’t have any unique abilities (besides the symbiote stuff, which we’ll get to). She does, however, have experience solving mysteries and crimes. A beginner detective and skilled musician, Gwen brings a refreshing level of creative problem-solving to her heroics. While her wall-crawling and web-shooting are pretty standard and fundamental, Ghost-Spider’s flexibility, agility, artistic nature, and confidence help rank her on this list.

Also, Gwen is now bonded to a symbiote. After losing her own powers, Gwen has new ones including camouflage, matter generation, and a healing factor. Plus, she regained her superhuman strength and durability, as well as her Spider-Sense, after bonding with the symbiote to become “Gwenom.” Finally, and this is the most fascinating: Gwen can control the spiders that make up her symbiote suit, sending them like scouts and semi-autonomous creatures to do her bidding. We’re lucky she isn’t evil!

5. Venomized Spider-Man/Eddie Brock is tough and terrifying

Speaking of symbiotes … make way for the most famous of them all! In one alternate timeline, Venom accidentally kills Peter Parker. Inspired to do good instead of evil, Venom bonds with Eddie Brock and encourages him to become a black-and-white suited, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Together, they’re incredibly strong with a virtuous moral code. They’re also incredibly in sync because they both have the same goals. In every other universe, the rift between Eddie and Venom keeps them from exercising their full potential as a pair.

Unfortunately, no radioactive spider means no extra powers. Eddie Brock is powerless without Venom. We cannot, however, discredit Eddie Brock’s skills as an investigative journalist and reporter. Like Gwen Stacy above, Eddie’s career helps him fight crime with rationality and purpose. That resolve and commitment, especially since Venom is usually a selfish villain, are what make him a hero.

4. Ultimate Spider-Man/Miles Morales has unique abilities

The big deal about Miles Morales is his bio-electricity and venom blast. And his adaptive camouflage that’s basically invisibility. Okay, yeah, so the kid’s got a lot going for him! Ultimate Spider-Man, as he’s now known, has taken Spider-Hero abilities to the next level. On top of everything mentioned above, he is actively refining his radar sense, which allows him to see through solid matter in order to detect potential threats. Miles’ electricity and venom powers are also always evolving, giving him skill sets including ranged attacks, beams and blasts, and even energy constructs.

Notably, Miles Morales was bitten by a genetically modified spider that had been injected with the Oz formula. It’s currently theorized that Miles’ rapid regeneration may eventually turn into outright immortality. This is due to the Oz formula’s effect on both Norman Osborn and Peter Parker. Of course, whether or not Miles develops this power remains to be seen.

3. Peter Parker/Spider-Man is strong emotionally and physically

Peter Parker’s strength has varied over the years. Of course, as our main Spider-Man, he’s absolutely going to change the most. We met him as a teenage hero just coming to terms with his uncle’s death and newfound powers. Then, we watched him blossom into a man capable of saving the Multiverse multiple times with his quick wits and spider physiology. Peter’s also got other special tricks up his web-shooting sleeves. Spider-Man has near-perfect equilibrium and balance. He’s also immune to most drugs and diseases.

Most importantly, Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a relentless optimist. He will always fight for those he loves, and save the day even when he’s at his lowest. It’s just who he is. That kind of strength can’t be created at the gym or through a super spider. Peter Parker’s true strength is innate and genuinely unquantifiable, because it’s entirely in his heart. According to many other Marvel characters, his identity and willpower are simply unshakeable. He is the greatest of the Spider-Totem wielders in every reality. That counts for quite a lot.

2. Kaine Parker/Scarlet Spider’s modified genes give him an edge over others

Not to be confused with Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider, Kaine is Peter Parker’s immoral and evil clone. Because he’s willing to use his powers for evil, we’ll call him a bit stronger than Peter — mostly since Peter hasn’t tested if his abilities can do true harm. Of course, we can argue all we want about if “true strength” resides in killing or not killing, but that’s a moral debate. In terms of physical prowess, Kaine Parker has his genetic blueprint beat. Plus, his later redemption arc shows us that he’s also morally capable and committed. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Due to cellular degeneration, Kaine’s augmented abilities sometimes change or weaken. Although unstable, his powers are still impressive. The most notable include his organic webbing generation and psychic alignment with spiders. Kaine can communicate with and control them as well as other insects owing to his deep connection to the environment. Kaine is also immune to Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense, making him untraceable by the hero. Finally, Kaine has a special ability that no other Spider-Hero can replicate called the “Mark of Kaine.” A truly horrible talent, it lets him channel endothermic energy into his fingers and burn a severe mark on someone’s face if they come into skin-to-skin contact.

1. Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 is the strongest Spider-Man

In a desperate bid to stay alive, Miguel O’Hara spliced his human DNA with spider DNA. And in case you weren’t aware, spiders are seriously strong — and a bit monstrous. After all, there’s a reason arachnophobia exists. So Spider-Man 2099 has talons, fangs, and organic webbing on top of the typical superhuman strength, speed, and stamina you get with all Spider-Heroes. However, Miguel’s speed is accelerated even beyond that; he moves so fast he leaves a body double/decoy behind.

Additionally, Spider-Man 2099’s Spider-Sense developed differently than most, giving him telepathy. This hypersensitive hero has telescopic and night vision, regeneration and accelerated healing, plus advanced longevity. That’s right — Miguel will outlive any human, even one bit by a radioactive spider. All these powers and abilities make him an extremely lethal opponent. At times when he’s been at odds with other heroes, it’s taken insane team-ups to take down Spider-Man 2099. And that’s why Spider-Man 2099 is the strongest Spider-Man.
