Matt Reeves Drops a Surprise Teaser for The Batman Part II

By Jasmine Edwards on Jul 15, 2026

Originally published on July 15, 2026. This article covers the release of the first official footage from The Batman Part II by director Matt Reeves.

In a surprise announcement, director Matt Reeves dropped camera test footage from the upcoming Warner Bros. film, The Batman Part II. This is the first official footage of the new film, a follow-up to Reeves’ highly successful and audience-adored The Batman (2022). Matt Reeves posted this 0:37 second clip with only “PART II 🦇🦇” as the caption.

What we know about The Batman Part 2 (so far):

  • The Batman is back
  • It releases in 2028
  • The Batman is streaming now
  • This film is part of DC Elseworlds

The Batman is back

  • Starring: Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell
  • Additional Cast: Andy Serkis, Sebastian Stan, Jeffrey Wright, Jayme Lawson, Brian Tyree Henry
  • Rumored Cast: Barry Keoghan

The teaser shows Bruce Wayne in profile, standing in the shot foreground. He wears the Batman — or Vengeance — suit while standing in the pouring rain. Police sirens and radio chatter sound beneath the film’s epic score (composed by Michael Giacchino) while lights flash in the background. After Batman turns, the video clip cuts to black. Next, the new logo, with the Bat-Symbol in red, appears alongside text reading “II.” Finally, the release date flashes onto the screen.

The Batman Part 2 releases in 2028

  • Theatrical Release Date: February 18, 2028

After several major delays, The Batman Part II is officially on track to release in theaters on February 18, 2028. Pre-production commenced all the way back in August 2025, and filming began in June of this year. Filming has taken place primarily on WB soundstages as well as on location in both England and Scotland.

The Batman is streaming now

  • Genre: Super Hero/Action/Crime/Thriller
  • Where To Watch: HBO Max

Fans can stream the first installment of this gritty detective drama film on HBO Max. This service houses all of the various DC and Warner Bros. movie and television projects.

So is The Penguin

The Penguin also takes place in the same universe. Starring Colin Farrell as the titular villain, this limited series delves deep into the dark underbelly of Gotham City. While Batman does not make an appearance, the consequences of Penguin’s actions will likely impact the plot of The Batman Part II — which is not yet revealed.

This film is part of DC Elseworlds

When they took over DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Saffron made an effort to consolidate the canon. They restructured the universe, wiping the slate clean in most instances. Therefore, Robert Pattinson’s Batman is not the main Batman. The Batman Part I and Part II are both included under the “Elseworlds” label.

Although, no other actor has been cast, or at least announced, as the primary Batman for the continuity — which includes David Corenswet’s Superman. Who is your ideal Batman? Is it Robert Pattinson?
