The Sirens’ Call- Behind the Scenes of the Stanley “Artgerm” Lau Artist Series

You know, the three of us have been living on the edge way too long. Gotham is worse than ever. That gives us a choice — we can get out, or band together.”

Sideshow is proud to present our latest collaboration with the incredible Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, bringing you this brand new artist series highlighting the bad girls of Gotham. Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy take the stage as the focus of this new series of 1:5 scale statues that blend each femme fatale with high fashion.

These rogues have stolen our hearts as a trio of dangerous dames who give Batman plenty of trouble. Catwoman is more than just a costumed criminal- she is one of the most beguiling cat burglars in all of Gotham. Poison Ivy is a botanist turned baddie after a chemical incident gives her deadly plant powers. Finally, the Joker’s best girl Harley Quinn is no fool. Her love of laughter is rivaled by her love of chaos- with all the bells and whistles!

We are huge fans of Stanley’s work here at Sideshow, and have had the great pleasure of collaborating with him on a number of previous projects. Now the Gotham City Sirens have gone from costumed to couture, each with Artgerm’s signature twist. Fans of DC comics and high fashion will not want to miss this series!

Artgerm said: “I always believe that art is a lifestyle, and I’m living in it. Being able to bring something that I have in mind to life through a piece of art- to me, that is magical.”

Lau’s vibrant artwork certainly gave the team plenty of inspiration to bring these fashionable figures to life with attitude and flair.

Painter Kat Sapene said: “Over time, I’ve worked on a few Stan Lau statues, and he has a very particular color style that he uses, so we wanted to make sure that we captured that. In all of these, you’ll notice that they have a specific direction that the light is coming from. We wanted to find a direction that was flattering to all the pieces that really accentuated their faces and would give them a three-dimensional and realistic look.”

Art Director David Igo added:  “This project was all about evolving these iconic rogues in a new and unique direction with Stanley and his passion for fashion design, and the team really came together to support and meet that goal.  Each of the vixens has her own distinctions, but their fashion styles and colors really compliment one another when they’re all presented together.  Stanley’s designs have really popped out of his artwork and come to life in a fully realized series that we’re excited to share with our collectors and Artgerm fans everywhere.
