The Top 10 Team-Ups on Star Wars: The Mandalorian

By Shannon O'Toole

As a bounty hunter, Din Djarin™ spent much of his adult life working alone. Despite belonging to a covert on Nevarro™, Din Djarin often found himself with little meaningful company. After locating and deciding to protect a would-be asset, Din Djarin begins teaming up with people from all walks of life all over the galaxy.

Here are our top 10 Din Djarin team-ups on Star Wars: The Mandalorian!

10. Captain Teva

The New Republic pilot and bounty hunter cross paths several times over the course of the series. After pursuing the Razor Crest™, Captain Teva™ boldly rescues Din Djarin from ice spiders on Maldo Kreis™. Although he lawfully should have brought the Mandalorian in, Captain Teva decides to let him go once he learns of some of Din Djarin’s previous deeds.

While the two men definitely go about their business differently, both pursue what they believe to be good and right. As season 3 ended, Captain Teva and Din Djarin formed a mutually beneficial alliance with one another.

9. Cara Dune

Although their relationship basically started with an all-out brawl, Cara Dune™ and Din Djarin work together several times. First, they prepare a group of untrained villagers to defend their homes. Even after Cara Dune became a New Republic marshal on Nevarro, the duo works together again.

With Bo-Katan Kryze™, Fennec Shand™, and Koska Reeves™ at her side, Cara Dune helps Din Djarin rescue Grogu™ from Moff Gideon™. During their time together, Din Djarin could always count on Cara Dune for help regardless of the danger at hand.

8. Cobb Vanth

First appearing wearing Boba Fett’s™ armor, Cobb Vanth™ certainly made an impression. When Din Djarin demands that the beskar™ armor be returned to him as a Mandalorian™, Cobb at first refuses. Eventually, however, he offers the armor to the Mandalorian in exchange for help defeating a krayt dragon™.

With assistance from Tusken Raiders™, the people of Mos Pelgo™, lots of planning, and no shortage of improvising, Din Djarin and Cobb Vanth are successful in vanquishing the krayt dragon and saving the town from any further loss.

7. Kuiil

One of the first allies and friends that Din Djarin makes in The Mandalorian is Kuiil™. The Ugnaught™ teaches Din Djarin how to ride a blurrg™ and guides him to the site of the asset he seeks. He helps him rebuild the Razor Crest after getting parts back from plundering Jawas™ and eventually rebuilds IG-11™, essentially turning him from a bounty-hunting droid to a babysitter. Kuiil ultimately gives his life attempting to keep Grogu safe, earning the eternal gratitude of the Mandalorian.

6. IG-11

Din Djarin is immediately distrusting of the reprogrammed droid despite knowing Kuiil always did good work. Given their last encounter and his own personal history with droids, Din Djarin is slow to trust IG-11. Eventually, however, IG-11 earns the Mandalorian’s respect when he keeps Grogu safe from Moff Gideon’s men and sacrifices himself to save everyone else in the rescue party. Din Djarin eventually helps get IG-11 recommissioned and instated as the marshal of Nevarro.

5. Boba Fett and Fennec Shand

The Mandalorian’s first encounter with the team of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand is tense, to say the least. Boba Fett demands the return of his armor, and at first Din Djarin refuses. The stakes are raised when Fennec reveals that she has a meditating Grogu in her sights.

The three end up working together when Moff Gideon attacks, and together they bring Grogu home. Din Djarin maintains a good relationship with the former bounty hunters, each coming to one another’s aid throughout both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett™.

4. Luke Skywalker

Din Djarin and his team successfully rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon but find themselves cornered aboard his ship as Dark Troopers™ attempt to break down the door standing between them. As the company prepares for a relatively hopeless fight, an X-Wing™ speeds past and boards Moff Gideon’s ship. In his dark robes and bearing his green lightsaber™, it is soon revealed to be none other than Luke Skywalker™ himself.

Luke deftly defeats the Dark Troopers. He helps Din Djarin complete his mission of returning Grogu to his kind when he offers to take Grogu for training. Despite Grogu returning to Din Djarin in the end, Luke’s training saves both Grogu and the Mandalorian on more than one occasion.

3. Ahsoka Tano

In his mission to return Grogu to his own kind, Din Djarin is encouraged by Bo-Katan Kryze to seek out the former Jedi™ Ahsoka Tano™. Ahsoka communes with Grogu, revealing his name for the first time on the show. Ahsoka and Din Djarin decide to work as a team to free the nearby village from Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth™, a feat neither could have achieved on their own.

Following their victory, Ahsoka gives the pure beskar spear she took from Elsbeth to the Mandalorian. Although Ahsoka tells the Mandalorian that she cannot train the Child as he had hoped, she tells him how to reach out to someone who can.

2. Bo-Katan Kryze

These two Mandalorians meet for the first time in season 2. Despite their different takes on what makes one a Mandalorian, they find themselves with a common enemy in Moff Gideon. Their alliance becomes a focal point in the third season.

Bo-Katan rescues Din Djarin from a scavenger on the desolated planet of Mandalore™, and then again from drowning in the Living Waters™. Din Djarin recognizes Bo-Katan as the rightful leader of the Mandalorians and the rightful owner of the Darksaber™, pledging his allegiance to her. Together they destroy the Imperial base on Mandalore and reclaim the planet for the Mandalorians.

1. Grogu

As the central relationship in The Mandalorian, the team-up between Din Djarin and Grogu tops the list. Starting as bounty hunter and asset, they grow to be Mandalorian and foundling and then eventually become father and son.

The duo save each other multiple times throughout the three seasons and trust one another implicitly. Their love for one another keeps them together despite their creeds calling them to different paths. Now that Din Djarin has officially adopted Grogu, viewers can look forward to the father-and-son duo tracking bounties for the New Republic across the galaxy.

Over the course of three seasons, a once solitary bounty hunter finds himself working with others whom he comes to not only trust but value as friends as well. After finding Grogu, he realizes that there are people who do not follow his creed yet still have much to offer in the way of loyalty.

From fellow Mandalorians to Jedi to droids, Din Djarin learns that he can do remarkable and heroic things with others at his side. Who are your favorite Mando team-ups? Share your thoughts with other Star Wars fans at side.show/geekgroup, and don’t forget to Let Your Geek Sideshow!
