Top 10 Webtoons to Read Right Now
As autumn settles in, we all want to wrap up in blankets with a hot mug and a good book — or a comic, graphic novel, manga, or manhwa. Or even a webtoon! For fans of the digital format, you’re in luck. If you’re looking for the next series to subscribe to, we’ve curated a list of the top 10 webtoons to read right now.
While some are concluded and others are ongoing, they’re all currently available in the Webtoon app. Check out our reading recommendations below.
SAVE ME
SAVE ME is the first BTS webtoon. It’s a dark tale based on the HYYH music/lore era wherein Jin gets stuck in a time loop. He is the only one who experiences multiple timelines. This results in him experiencing the deaths or losses of all of his friends. All of this is orchestrated by a Cat-like creature who implores Jin to find the “map of the soul” in order to end his and his brothers’ suffering. Whether or not he accomplishes this is yours to find out.
7FATES: CHAKHO
7FATES: CHAKHO is the second BTS webtoon. It takes place separately from the SAVE ME continuity in an alternate, semi-apocalyptic world. Here, Beom, or tiger-humanoid beasts, have ripped through the barrier separating them from the humans. Now they’re on the hunt. But it’s complicated, because there are also good Beom, as well as other monsters and more magic. Our seven protagonists must find a way to save the world while also learning their own true potential and priorities.
Ultimately, CHAKHO kind of feels like an anime. There’s a new villain almost every week, and it’s really action heavy. Yet the comic balances so many battle scenes and a large cast of characters with ease. When you’re confused, it’s only because there’s a big reveal coming just around the corner. And those reveals are always worth the wait.
THE STAR SEEKERS
THE STAR SEEKERS just released its series finale, so now is the perfect time to catch up! Based on the K-pop group TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s official lore, THE STAR SEEKERS is set in a universe where idols use magic to enhance their performances. The STAR1 members don’t have magic and are therefore not very popular. Everything changes when they unlock limitless magical potential during a concert which reveals them as the “Boys of Destiny.”
What follows is a lovely, adventure filled story about friendship and fate. While STAR1 attempts to stop the “Doom Night” which will end their world, they unravel mysteries about their pasts as well as the people around them. Finally, there’s lot of cool fantasy art and symbolism connected to TXT’s actual music.
Lore Olympus
Lore Olympus is a retelling of the Greek myths, with an emphasis on Persephone and Hades. It’s got everything: family drama, political intrigue, romance, tragedy, and comedy. The series follows Persephone as she falls in love and begins to question the constraints that have been placed on her in the mortal realm. Olympus itself is a sprawling modern metropolis, while the humans’ home-sweet-home is still ancient Greece. Neat, right?
Most interestingly, Lore Olympus really does span quite a few genres. It is accessible for teens and up, sometimes keeping it light but also never shying away from seriously heavy topics. With over 250 episodes and more on the way, though, you can dive in and see for yourself.
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures
One thing everybody always wants more of in Detective Comics is Bat-Family dynamics. Well, you’re in luck. There’s a webtoon that’s plenty of shenanigans, some drama, and all heart. Batman: Wayne Family Adventures deals with missions in Gotham as well as inside Wayne Manor, and always includes each and every member of the sprawling family tree — or, uh, bat colony. Plus, from time to time, heroes like Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, and Superman also get a chance to run around with the kids.
Zatanna & the Ripper
Can’t get enough of DC webtoons? Here’s another. Zatanna & the Ripper features blossoming magician Zatanna Zatara. Her magic is out of control, she just turned 21, and her dad gets kidnapped by an evil sorceress. If that wasn’t enough, Zatanna gets locked in Whitechapel, London, in the late 1800s. She can’t go home and she faces a threat unlike any other: Jack the Ripper himself.
Zatanna & the Ripper is a teen-friendly tale about finding your voice — and your powers. It also includes cameos by many other beloved DC characters like John Constantine who all round out the story quite well, but never take the spotlight from our protagonist. The series wrapped up earlier this year, so you can also read it the whole way through without encountering cliffhangers or waiting for new chapters.
Nevermore
October might be over, but you can keep spooky season going all year long with this next rec. Nevermore is a mature young adult comic with a new take on purgatory. Like the title suggests, it’s also bursting at the seams with Edgar Allen Poe references. On the surface, Nevermore seems like an afterlife boarding school drama. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a story of life and death, gothic romance, and betrayal.
Plus, Nevermore has some pretty spectacular horror art. If you like unique takes on ghosts from various cultures, you’ll love this. If you love Poe and classic literature, you’ll love this. And if you love women taking control of their own destinies in the most diabolical ways possible, you’ll be saying “Good for her” as you scroll for more.
Fictional Skin
Fictional Skin follows two cousins as they come of age. Finn and Vivi are fun and dynamic pre-teens navigating social pressures and changes. Things take a strange — but still realistic — turn when a boy who looks exactly like a character in Finn’s favorite video game arrives at school. Jinsei disrupts both characters’ routines, both for the better and for much worse. And when Finn starts to draw Jinsei’s misadventures as a comic, everyone’s lives take yet another new and fascinating direction.
Crow Time
Crow Time is an adorable, bite-sized anthology webtoon. Each episode contains crows, corvids, or even pigeons. These beloved birbs go on various adventures or simply stay in to give out excellent life advice. Over the course of the series, additional magical and fantastical characters have also appeared. But you can jump in at any time and easily get a sense of the entire story — which is guaranteed to make you smile each and every week.
The Sound of Magic: Annarasumanara
The Sound of Magic has a strange, dreamy, almost ethereal quality about it. Its art is both realistic and otherworldly, experimenting with shapes and colors in a way that draws you in. The story is just as enchanting, following an impoverished high school student named Yun Ai. She’s smart, but she’s lost her way and her dream. Then she meets a magician at a carnival who encourages her to pursue her passions. It’s a heartwarming story that will bring tears to your eyes simply from the sheer beauty of it.
