Universal Pictures Debuts its Dark Universe
Universal Pictures has officially announced the name for its upcoming shared-continuity monster movie franchise- Dark Universe. This newest cinematic universe will reimagine and reboot a slate of beloved beasts and classic creatures, beginning with The Mummy which releases in June. The first of these frightening creatures are featured in a new Dark Universe cast shot.
Among the monsters returning to the silver screen are the Invisible Man (Johnny Depp), Frankenstein’s Monster (Javier Bardem), Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe), with Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and the aforementioned Mummy (Sofia Boutella). Following summer’s release of The Mummy, the next film in the franchise will be The Bride of Frankenstein in 2019.
An announcement was made on Twitter to welcome viewers into this new Dark Universe, along with a trailer that revealed the logo and touched on the various Universal monsters that have clawed their way into pop culture and our hearts over the years.
