Gods & Monsters Arriving in the DCU — Movies and More!

The DCU officially begins! Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters, marks the true start of the soft reboot. And, of course, James Gunn’s Superman (2025) kicks off this cohesive universe, which melds all DC film and television releases into a streamlined and fully connected narrative. Now that Superman is out (and performing very well), we think it’s safe to make a few light predictions about the future of the franchise.

Let’s review the upcoming DCU releases below, then look at who and what these projects are about — and how Superman (potentially) plays into each.

Peacemaker Season 2 (August 21, 2025)

Although Gunn and Safran aren’t overly concerned with release dates, you won’t need to wait too long for another DCU drop. Peacemaker season 2 hits HBO Max next month. The irreverent yet earnest antihero comedy follows Chris Smith and his team of strangely charismatic handlers and allies. And we can’t forget to mention Peacemaker’s BFF Eagly! Season 2 will likely cement what’s carrying over from season 1 versus what’s getting left behind, perhaps in an alternate dimension or Multiverse?

Peacemaker himself makes a cameo in Superman. As a guest on a news segment, Chris rails against Superman’s morality. Heroes who refuse to kill, he argues, aren’t necessarily better than heroes like him who do. While we don’t think David Corenswet is suiting up to stop by Peacemaker, we can’t help but think how cute it would be to send Clark Kent (or Lois Lane or Jimmy) to report on this disastrous group of do-gooding misfits.

Additionally, the Justice Gang (working title) can be seen interviewing Chris in the Peacemaker official teaser. Chronologically, this probably takes place after Superman. So where’s Metamorpho? Maybe it was his day to take care of the baby.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26, 2026)

This one’s for the party girls! Kara Danvers, AKA Supergirl, appears in a mid-credits scene in Superman. Stumbling and hungover, she enters the Fortress of Solitude to reclaim Krypto, who Superman has been fostering. Kara’s clearly got a bit of a wild side. Are her escapades a coping mechanism to hide the hurt of losing her entire planet? The Woman of Tomorrow comic run explores a more pessimistic time for a usually cheery character. More than likely, the movie will explore Kara’s darker side — yet also the hope and optimism inherent in all surviving Kryptonians.

Undoubtedly, Superman should be part of Woman of Tomorrow — but we don’t know for certain. Even if it’s just a quick cameo to match his cousin, we really hope the studio wouldn’t separate the family for that long. Plus, we all want to see these dynamics outside of a small, drunken, exasperated exchange. Here’s hoping!

Lanterns (2026)

Nathan Fillion appears as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in Superman — and he is confirmed to reprise that role in Lanterns. But the Lanterns television series primarily features John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Set on planet Earth, Lanterns reportedly matches the anthology show True Detective in style and tone (though perhaps not adult content). As John and Hal investigate a mystery on Earth, they uncover a main plot/through line for the entirety of the DCU.

Whatever that mystery could be, it’s been kept under complete wraps even as filming finishes this month. Maybe we’ll get more announcements or trailers at San Diego Comic-Con or after. In any case, everyone is willing to wait — but the anticipation is quite high.

Clayface (September 2026)

Hello, body horror. Perhaps channeling some insane crossover of The Fly (1986) and The Substance (2024), Clayface is really leaning into the monstrous side of this chapter. In this adaptation of the character’s comic story, a struggling actor — potentially Basil Karlo — uses his clay-enhanced body to stay relevant in the public eye. But Karlo’s only credits are in B-movies and his reputation only deteriorates alongside his mental and physical states.

Little else is known about Clayface at this time, although Gunn confirmed it’s an R-rated psychological horror. Shooting is scheduled for August 2025. Since Clayface is primarily a Rogues Gallery villain, it’s unlikely Superman has any role in this. However, Mister Terrific has been known to hang around Gotham City (see the Hush comics) and could appear if Batman isn’t ready for his big screen DCU debut.

The Batman Part II (October 1, 2027)

The Batman is technically part of the DCU, but as an Elseworlds story. That means Robert Pattinson is not officially the DCU’s Batman. Still, the studio is moving ahead with the sequel — especially after the glowing reception of HBO’s The Penguin series. Apparently, Gunn and Safran love the script, and production is slated for late 2025.

Batman: The Brave and The Bold (TBA)

Now there’s a Batman — and his son! This movie is all about that Bat-Family. Billed as a father and son story, it will introduce Damian Wayne/Robin to the DCU. Additionally, this might be our first time seeing Gunn’s new choice for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Unless Clayface and the Caped Crusader get into it first.

The Authority (TBA)

The Engineer from Superman is, at least in the comics, a member of The Authority. This hyper-violent team of heroes does the dirty work and has no qualms about how they stop their enemies. After the events of Superman, it’s likely that The Engineer is looking for a new job. Will she recruit or be recruited? Is Lex Luthor in any way involved? We’ll know more soon … hopefully.

Swamp Thing (TBA)

Everyone’s abuzz about this gothic horror film. Once again emphasizing the monster part of this chapter, Swamp Thing is a dark and dangerous origin story. Tonally, it will be very different from the rest of the DCU, though narratively it will fit Gunn and Safran’s united vision.

Creature Commandos Season 2 (TBA)

Did you miss these critters? This animated adventure continues to expand the lore and story behind Belle Reve’s most intriguing inhuman inmates. After a successful first season, Creature Commandos is still a huge draw for worldwide audiences and should vaguely tie into anything connected to The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

Waller (TBA)

Waller is an animated series which follows the titular character after her crimes are exposed to the American public. Since it’s now releasing after Peacemaker season 2, it will also probably deal with the aftermath of whatever happens there. Allegedly, the script is unfinished or still needs tweaks, but Team Peacemaker is coming back to cartoon form soon.

Paradise Lost (TBA)

Described as Game of Thrones-esque, Paradise Lost takes us to the island of Themyscira prior to Diana Prince/Wonder Woman’s birth. It is a political drama full of deceit and betrayals, all on a fantasy island setting. Right now, it’s giving serious Survivor — and what an interesting choice to remove Diana.

Untitled Wonder Woman movie (TBA)

There’s no concrete news at this time as to when the final member of the DC Trinity will emerge into the DCU. However, James Gunn did recently reveal his plans for a Wonder Woman movie. He said it’s slow-moving, but being written now, and is entirely separate from Paradise Lost.

Booster Gold (TBA)

We don’t know anything about Booster Gold’s namesake show except that it’s an “outright comedy.” So, get ready to laugh (and probably feel a lot, too, if Superman is any indication).
