Spring has sprung and that means the air is filled with pollen, paranoia, and pulse-pounding horror. What fresh horrors await us this season and in the upcoming year?

So far, we’ve already seen sequels added to fan-favorite horror franchises, with Scream 7, The Strangers – Chapter 3, and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Zombies went back to high school with This Is Not A Test and camp reigned supreme in Forbidden Fruits. Now, we’ve got monsters, video game adaptations, found footage, and even internet urban legends.

If you think rush hour traffic is scary, try getting stuck in the subway all alone — and all the while you’re doomed to report your mistakes until you find your way to the exit. Based on a video game of the same name, this upcoming Japanese horror film will have you questioning everything as you look up, down, left, right, and all around for that blinking exit sign.

After “20,000 years of primal evolution,” this monster is ready to leave the woods. It seems like good ol’ fashioned monster movies are back and we’re even getting more original takes on our inhuman neighbors, like this new creature feature set in the snowy Alaskan wilderness.

You’ll have a difficult time finding clear footage of this upcoming horror film since the teaser has only been shown before screenings of Primate and Scream 7. But that only adds to the allure of this roadside attraction.

Backrooms

Liminal spaces exist between here and there, someplace caught between reality and a physical plane that’s a bit harder to contain. As if that concept weren’t trippy enough, Backrooms takes its inspiration from a realm of internet urban legends called creepypasta. Melting furniture will only be the beginning of the creep factor here.

Leviticus

• Director: Adrian Chiarella

The internet has dubbed this upcoming Australian movie as the “Heated Rivalry of horror” but don’t be fooled. There’s much more danger here than crossing hockey sticks in the locker room. Leviticus pits two young men against the horrors of conversion therapy and religious extremism and promises to deliver a chilling tale of how lethal hate can be.

But the horrors don’t stop there, by any means. Later in the year, acclaimed directors will return with new features. Osgood Perkins’ The Young People and Robert Eggers’ Werwulf are set to release in 2026, along with other famous franchise sequels like Evil Dead Burn, Resident Evil, Scary Movie.
