Get to Know the Gangs and Organizations of Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077  was one of the most anticipated games of 2020 and its release sparked a long cycle of news, reviews, and upgrades. With the game’s recent Playstation 5 rerelease, CD Projekt Red has given fans another opportunity to get tangled up in the gangs and organizations of Cyberpunk 2077.

Night City is full of Boostergangs, the street-based groups of cybernetically enhanced individuals claiming their territory and upholding their legacies. Let’s take a look into some of the stories and gang histories that are present throughout the game. Where will your loyalties lie?

 The Valentinos

The Valentinos are less of a gang than a front to seduce beautiful women. They don’t seem to have any agenda other than partying, not even maintaining hotly contested turf in Night City.

They operate under the watchful eyes of Santa Muerte as they engage in frivolous activities like parties, drag races, drinking, and more. Despite this, they do have a strong moral code and take honor and fraternity very seriously.

Voodoo Boys

The Voodoo Boys had a history of being a terrorist gang of drug dealers in the original tabletop world of Cyberpunk 2020. They were steeped in traditions and magic rituals, and twice as dangerous as their most tame drugs.

Within the setting of Cyberpunk 2077, it seems that they’ve changed their ways. They now keep the peace and deal more in cyberware than anything else.

Kang Tao

Kang Tao is a powerful weapon manufacturer, known for their smart-weapons like the G-58 Dian and Type 41 Smart Assault Rifles. The company is bolstered by the government.

Even if you escape their weapons, you can’t escape their power. Kang Tao also offers security services, making them likely to be omnipresent in some locales.

The Animals are in an intense gang war with the Voodoo Boys. They are obsessed with strength, wanting to become “peak human” by aggressively modifying their more animalistic abilities with drugs, avoiding the usual cyberware upgrades in favor of their more unconventional methods.

Over the course of the game, one of the leaders in the Animals might even ask you (V) to infiltrate the Voodoo Boys’ hideout. Good luck.

Tyger’s Claw

The Tyger’s Claw gang is a defensive combat gang run out of Japantown. They’re less enhanced with cyberware, but more traditionally trained in fighting. They specialize in martial arts and old-fashioned Japanese weaponry, including katanas. They also seem to have the trappings of bosozoku biker culture.

Rumor has it that they’re backed by Arasaka Corp.

Arasaka Corp.

The Arasaka Corporation is a multi-national corporation with more financial power and influence than any other single corporation in the world. They deal in banking, legal services, and security, making them difficult to infiltrate or challenge in any capacity.

Arasaka Corp. will use any tactic to stay at the top, from bribery to assassination. They certainly had a role in the 4th Corporate War and they definitely have nefarious ties to the tragic history of Johnny Silverhand.

Maelstrom is one of the most visually terrifying gangs in Night City, and in the game, you just might be swindled into breaking into their base. They enhance themselves with cyberwear to an unprecedented degree in order to give themselves the edge in combat.

In fact, many of them appear to be more machine than man, with modifications of unknown capabilities. Their obsession with cyberwear has pushed most of its members toward cyberpsychosis yet they show no signs of slowing down.

6th Street

6th Street originally stood for something. They had a vision of justice and equality in Night City. But the mighty have fallen, and 6th Street’s version of justice is certainly not going to help you in the game.

They take a vigilante approach to the law, after growing tired of the firsthand failures of the Night City Police Department. Watch your back around the 6th Street gang.

The Mox

The Mox protect the “working girls and guys” from violence and abuse. They were founded in honor of a strip club owner named Elizabeth “Lizzie” Borden, and they adopted her protective ideals into their own creed.

Little else is known about this gang, but they shouldn’t be underestimated. The less you know, the easier it is for them to attack.

Everybody wants to belong. And sometimes, especially in a place like Night City, a street gang is the only way to find yourself. Before you head out into the streets of Night City, be sure to check out Sideshow’s Cyberpunk 2077 collectibles.
