Marvel’s Eternals Teaser Breakdown
Marvel released the first official teaser trailer for their long-awaited film titled Eternals.
The teaser opens on a grey-blue ocean, and zooms in on an idyllic early civilization of humans. Children play, and hunters hold their spears high. Suddenly, a pointed alien ship protrudes from nowhere. Intricate designs grow and the gargantuan size of the ship truly comes into view, hovering hundreds of feet just above the early humans’ heads.
Inside the ship, looking out over the land, a vibrant Sersi speaks to Ikaris. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Then, Sersi’s voice plays over images of the Eternals helping humans fight, irrigate, and develop cities. She says, “We have watched, and guided. We have helped them progress and seen them accomplish wonders. Throughout the years, we have never interfered. Until now.”
All throughout the trailer, we only get glimpses of the Eternals’ powers. Some appear to be able to fly, others can project cosmic energies. Some have super speed or super strength, and others still can create technology with the pure will to do so.
While their comic book counterparts have similar powers, it is unclear what changes will be made for the lore of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, they were created by the Celestials. Ego the Living Planet, seen in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, was a Celestial, and the world of Knowhere was made from the head of a dead Celestial. Those powerful beings were able to control and use the Infinity Stones to create The Eternals and The Deviants.
It’s unclear if the Eternals will be made from the powers of the Infinity Stones, but it does seem that the once disbanded group of godlike entities will be reuniting to face an ultimate foe. Based on their arrival, the threat is even greater than the Mad Titan Thanos.
The synopsis for the film gives us a clue about the dangers they will face.
Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. While the Deviants have hidden underground, the Eternals have lived secretly among humanity for millennia.
They also shared a new poster for the film.
