Spider-Man: No Way Home Teaser Explained
Today, Marvel and Sony released their first official teaser trailer for their upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The teaser opens with MJ and Peter Parker sitting on a roof reading the news together. It seems that every tabloid in town is speculating about the life and times of Peter Parker, ever since Mysterio revealed that the teen hero lives a double life as both Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Peter can’t seem to get a break. He’s blamed for the death of Mysterio, and he’s constantly surrounded by paparazzi, phone cameras, people staring. He can’t even walk through his school without people crowding him in the halls. All he wants to do is fix his life and go back to a simpler time before his identity was revealed, and he can only think of one person who has the power to affect the timeline: Doctor Strange.
He asks Doctor Strange to erase everyone’s memory in such a way that no one would know Spider-Man’s secret identity. The spell, however, is complicated, and Peter doesn’t want everyone to forget. He wants MJ and Ned and Aunt May to all remember, and of course the other Avengers, and—
Peter’s interruptions tamper with the spell, and in doing so, he disrupts the stability of space time itself. The Multiverse begins to shift. As long as Peter tries to live two different lives, as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, the Multiverse will continue to fracture and change. That’s when all the villains seem to arrive.
A green grenade gets tossed, with a sinister laugh behind it. It seems very much like the laugh of Green Goblin, a classic Spider-Man villain. When the smoke and ashes from the grenade clears, one metallic arm reaches out and stands. Dr. Otto Octavius emerges, played by Alfred Molina, the same actor who played him in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. It seems that Spider-Man villains from across the Multiverse are here to battle. Doc Ock just smiles and says, “Hello, Peter.”
The film stars Zendaya as MJ, Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Wong, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius, Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, J.B. Smoove as Mr. Dell, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, and more!
Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theaters on December 17.
