I’ve started collecting from sideshow after the second Iron-Man movie. Or was it Avengers? In any case, I was drawn to the accurate representation of the Iron-Man figures sold at Sideshow. From there, I went on to Dark Knight stuff from the Nolan movies. One of my greatest treasures was the Bat-pod from Hot Toys. I displayed it on an empty shelf next to the room entrance door (big mistake) and thats’ how it fell and got broken! No biggie, just an accident from my son who came in dancing into the room. I adore my young collection, but I love my son more! I still need to get a joker of some kind, but I’m patient.
What do you collect? Does your collection have a theme, such as Star Wars, Batman, etc.?
Theme? I tend to like dark themes like Batman. When my older son moved out, the first thing I did was plaster wallpaper of New York (looking a bit like Gotham) on one wall and hanging my TV on the other. I setup my tv room as a small theater. I want my guests to enjoy the collection as much as the movies we watch at home. Sideshow and Hot Toys are great for that and I always get complements whenever people come over. It is a small room, but it will be awesome if you do it right! I like to draw comics as a hobby and I display my artwork on frames too.
What makes your collection unique?
The kind of stuff I display in this room you cannot get at Target or Walmart. Family and friends know how special some of these items are and they know you cannot find them anywhere. I try to setup one wall for the Joker, one for Batman and the closet for Avengers along with posters. I placed Bats on the ceiling as decor. One of the most unique ways to display my figures was to purchase glass lamps and place them inside! They look great at night with the lights on! Creativity is the key to make any collection unique.
What are your favorite or the most prized pieces in your collection?
My favorite is the new Iron-Man Die Cast. There’s something rare and truly unique about your figures lighting up on the chest, palms and helmet. It catches people by surprise! My other favorite is The Batman. He’s got a lot of gadgets with him.
What items are on your wish list?
I would like to add a Joker to my collection. I can’t believe I let the Joker banker edition go by without reserving it! Perhaps the Batman Returns and the Catwoman from that movie too. (I pre-ordered the Armored Batman and I’m stoked to get it by the fall).
