Get Ready to Rebel with the Andor Season 2 Trailer

In a surprise drop, Star Wars™ just released the Andor™ season 2 trailer. Fans were abuzz with excitement about this unexpected release for an extremely eagerly anticipated series. After all, we knew Andor season 2 was slated for this year — but we didn’t know exactly when to expect it. Now we have new footage plus a premiere date of April 22. Streaming exclusively on Disney+, the critically acclaimed live-action Star Wars show will add even more intrigue and drama to the current canon.

But besides excellent quality and writing, what can we expect from Andor season 2? Let’s recap season 1 and take a closer look at the season 2 trailer below.

Andor takes place 5 years before Rogue One

When it began, Andor followed Cassian before he was a true rebel. It showed him five years prior to joining up and helping steal the Death Star plans in Rogue One™, which was already a prequel since Rogue One leads directly into A New Hope™. But Andor season 2 only jumps ahead a single year, putting Cassian closer to the selfless act of defiance that leads to his and many other deaths — but even more lives saved.

Season 1 included a post-credits scene. It revealed that Narkina 5 prisoners had been building parts for the Death Star. As we approach the operation of this super-weapon, we ramp up to some fan-favorite moments in Star Wars history. Think everything about Rogue One and Rebels™. From the inception of the Phoenix Squadron to the operation on Scarif and more, we’re finally connecting the pieces between truly pivotal moments in the galaxy’s history.

Season 1 ended with all-out rebellion

Andor season 1 encompassed an impressive 12 episodes. And the finale was one of the most emotionally distressing, riveting, and impressive Star Wars projects to date. “Rix Road” demonstrates how a single event — the riot on Farrix — can ricochet across the galaxy.

Undoubtedly, season 2 will deal with the Rebellion’s spread across multiple planets as civilians are prompted to act. Big changes are coming, with Cassian Andor right at the center. And he’s doing what he does best — lying, cheating, manipulating, charming everyone, and fighting tooth and nail for what he believes in.

Here’s where we left our main players

Cassian Andor

Cassian went through a lot during season 1. Most notably, he spent time in a max security prison. Then, he helped stage a mass breakout. When he got back to his home planet Farrix, his mom was dead and his neighbors had turned against their Imperial oppressors.

Bix

Because she aided Cassian, Cassian’s ex-girlfriend Bix spent most of season 1 as a captive prisoner to the Empire. They even tortured her. In the finale, Bix escaped Farrix with Brasso, Cassian’s best friend. According to the trailer, she and Cassian will certainly reunite and cause chaos together again.

Luthen

A ruthless Imperial Security Bureau agent, Luthen planned to eliminate Cassian. But when offered the choice to recruit the plucky young man, Luthen put down his blaster and said yes. All we know about Luthen in season 2 is that he’s likely given up his disguise/deep cover as a wealthy art dealer. We get a single glimpse of him with longer, gray hair and little else to go off of.

Senator Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma is trying to navigate her role in high society with her hatred of the Empire. Family matters, including her daughter’s arranged marriage, provide distractions and setbacks galore. Yet in between dancing at parties and smiling at her enemies, Mon Mothma will no doubt find ways to assist her cousin Vel and the ISB.

Dedra Meero and Syril Karn

These Imperials have piqued our interest since season 1. Dedra Meero is an ambitious and methodical officer who isn’t afraid to get results through calculated violence. Conversely, Syril Karn is a weak-willed and somewhat cowardly inspector with big dreams. During the riots on Ferrix, Syril saved Dedra from civilian fire. We’ll see if she repays his kindness with a promotion.

Saw Gerrera, Orson Krennic, and K-2SO

Did you spot all the very familiar faces from Rogue One? Already featured in Andor season 1, Saw Gerrera makes another comeback in season 2. And this extremist/insurgent is clearly instrumental to the Rebellion, even if they don’t all agree with his hyper-violent tactics. Meanwhile, we’re also greeted by Orson Krennic in full Imperial dress. He’s quite pleased with the Death Star’s progress; this is obviously before his old friend and colleague Galen Erso starts sabotaging the project.

Finally, is that K-2SO? We really can’t be certain. Andor season 1 faked us out with a few KX droid appearances. We know that eventually Cassian will steal and reprogram one of these units. So, is the one in the trailer our beloved snarky droid? Guess we’ll find out in April.

Final Thoughts

“Remember this moment. You’re here, you’re right here. And you’re ready to fight!” Cassian certainly is. Quick montage moments show Cassian in the cockpit shooting at Imperial transport vehicles, presumably on Lothal. Since Cassian was Fulcrum before Ahsoka Tano and Kallus, it makes sense we’ll travel to the Ghost crew’s haunting grounds. We also see our protagonist strutting through Yavin IV — a highly recognizable Rebel base in Star Wars media. Plus, do you spy those X-Wing pilots? We’re really getting into the visuals of the Original Trilogy era now. Are you giddy? ‘Cause we are.

But just because we know where this goes doesn’t mean our heroes will have it easy. Stormtroopers — with and without helmets, and what’s up with that? — dot every scene. Imperials slide on riot gear to break up unruly crowds. Cassian dodges explosions, Bix fights dirty, and Brasso avoids arrest. Blaster fire and flames lick from corner to corner on the screen. So, things are heating up. We can’t wait to bask in the heat this April.
