Revisit These Daredevil and Punisher Facts Before Born Again

Very soon, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen will be back in action on the small screen. Following the success of Daredevil on Netflix and the sprawling reach of the MCU, Marvel is finally bringing us back to the dark and gritty world of everyone’s favorite Defender. But what should you expect from the show now that the storyline and universe have broken into canon continuity? We’ve got the scoop on the plot, new and returning characters, and more below.

When does Daredevil: Born Again premiere?

Daredevil: Born Again premieres exclusively on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. The pilot episode will hit the streaming service at 6 PM PT/9 PM ET, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll be sitting in front of your screen a few minutes beforehand. You’ll want to click play as soon as the super hero drama series uploads. Nobody wants to wait too long and get hit with spoilers, after all! And we’re all so excited to see the new show that we’re tuning in as soon as possible.

Who is returning for Daredevil: Born Again?

Whenever Marvel strikes previous series from canon, there’s inevitably online chatter about potential recasts or changes. However, fans really didn’t want to see Charlie Cox go after his perfect portrayal of the character in Netflix’s universe. Fortunately, Marvel kept Charlie! He appeared in Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Echo. Now, he’s reprising his titular role in Born Again.

Charlie isn’t the only previous cast member returning to Hell’s Kitchen. Check out his costars — including a fan-favorite from another Netflix series.

Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin

Of course, great heroes must have their great villains. After cementing his position in the MCU in both Hawkeye and Echo, Vincent D’Onofrio once again dons the pristine white suit for Born Again.

Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher

Played by Jon Bernthal, Frank Castle first appeared as Daredevil’s antagonist in Daredevil season 2. Frank is back, swinging hammers and fighting bloody, for Born: Again. But this time, it seems like the two vigilantes will be teaming up to take down a common enemy.

Wilson Bethel as Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter/Bullseye

Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye was met with rave reviews and jubilation. You all remember the exciting New York Comic Con panel when he was announced! In any case, we’re delighted that Bethel was asked to return as Dex, who is imprisoned after his murder spree and general mayhem wrought in Daredevil season 3.

Everyone cheered! Matt Murdock’s fellow legal team members and BFFs walk, laugh, and smile with Matt in the trailer. Let’s just hope the trio’s happy days aren’t numbered.

And who are the newcomers?

Roll out the welcome mat! Margarita Levieva joins Born Again as Heather Glenn, one of Matt Murdock’s love interests from Marvel comics. Genneya Walton plays the reporter BB Urich, and Will Fitz plays an unnamed paralegal. At this time, we still don’t know the actor hiding under the White Tiger mask (pictured above). Keep your secrets then, Marvel! We’ll know who they are in seven days.

What’s the Daredevil: Born Again plot?

The official synopsis on Disney+’s website reads as follows: “Blind lawyer Matt Murdock and former mob boss Wilson Fisk find themselves on a collision course.” That short pitch barely scratches the surface of what’s to come. The first official teaser trailer made that abundantly clear. By the looks of the trailer, we’re picking up mostly where Netflix’s Daredevil season 3 left off. Matt is focusing on his life as a lawyer, not a vigilante. Yet Fisk’s attempt to seize power through the New York government raises tension between the “retired” duo. While both men insist they’ve turned over a new leaf, montage moments showcase Matt in costume and Kingpin engaging in some seriously shady behavior.

Additionally, we’ve got a few different antagonists in the mix. The Punisher is seemingly an ally. But Bullseye, shown in a prison uniform, certainly can’t be caged long. Then there’s Buck Cashman, AKA Bullet. In the comics, Bullet is Kingpin’s assassin. Most notably, Daredevil: Born Again also features White Tiger. Marvel comics’ White Tiger is a man named Hector Ayala who uses mystical amulets to fight crime. But White Tiger is a hero, not a villain. So why are he and Daredevil at odds in the trailer? We have to assume Kingpin’s twisting the narrative to turn Matt’s potential friends against him. After all, Wilson and Matt know how to strike each other where it really hurts.

Born Again comics

Naturally, fans expect the series to share some similarities with its namesake 1986 story arc by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli. Although it looks vastly different already, we can see the resemblance. In the comic, Kingpin discovers Daredevil’s true identity and utilizes his influence to ruin Matt’s life — freezing his bank accounts, foreclosing his apartment, and framing him for perjury in order to revoke his legal license. Both men become obsessed with hurting each other to the detriment of their own goals. At the end, Captain America steps in to help expose Kingpin as a criminal. Matt’s livelihood is restored, and he finds a happy balance as both a lawyer and super hero.

Do we think Sam Wilson will cameo? It’s unlikely, but Marvel’s pulled more surprising moves. It’s fun to consider since Brave New World is currently in theaters, anyway. Ultimately, though, we believe that the series will pull thematic elements and characters from the comics but not the overall storyline.
