Fallout Season 2 Official Trailer: Now That’s Rad!

So, this is Vegas, huh?

Prime Video has officially dropped not a bomb, but a full official trailer for this December’s rapidly approaching Fallout season 2! We previously covered the Fallout season 2 teaser trailer, which gave us our first teases of the iconic, irradiated New Vegas strip. Now, the House lights are on as we catch up with Lucy, Hank, and Norm MacLean, the Ghoul, Maximus, and even Squire Thaddeus on a trek across the Mojave.

Squire Thaddeus Is Still Mutating

The trailer begins with Brotherhood aspirant Thaddeus catching up with Maximus, telling him that he’s seen crazy, unnatural things since they last met in the final episodes of season 1. The audience is given a few clips of just some of those things in question, including a roving gang of Elvis-wannabes known as the Kings (more on that in a moment), a dreaded radscorpion, and a radroach attacking Jon Daly’s snake oil salesman character (the one who, er, loves chickens).

The quick shot also reveals that Thaddeus’ hairline is receding and he’s endured some other physical changes since the injection that saved his life — like that palpitating mouth on his neck. Yikes! While it’s still unclear what the miracle cure was (many speculate it’s the Forced Evolutionary Virus, or FEV), the strange mutant mouth on his shoulder isn’t typical of Supermutants or ghoulification. Could he be turning into a centaur, one of the other horrifically mutated enemy types in the game?

Who Are the New Vegas Kings?

In the game Fallout: New Vegas, the Kings are a faction the Courier can encounter in Freeside. They govern themselves by the mantra of, “Every man is a king in his own right,” encouraging people to respect one another and their right to autonomy. But, most notably, they take their style of dress from the pre-War icon they only know as “The King.” This is, of course, based on Elvis Presley, although the Kings don’t actually know who “Elvis” is.

Notably, the Kings seen in the trailer here are all ghouls, dressed in the iconic Jailhouse Rock outfit. It’s unknown how organized as a street gang they will be in the series — especially since ghouls have been seen as being susceptible to madness that eventually turns them feral. Will Cooper Howard, AKA the Ghoul himself, get mixed up with them as a former actor and icon himself? Only time will tell!

Norm MacLean Is Still in Vault 33…

Lucy’s younger brother Norm may have been a bit of a layabout when the series first started, but he’s working hard to uncover the mysteries of the Vaults 31-32-33 triad. Haunted by the conspiracy behind the famine in 32 and the truth of Bud’s Buds from Vault 31, the youngest MacLean is missing from some of the more carefree scenes of life in the Vault-Tec bunkers (in what looks like some sort of happy-go-lucky musical number). Instead, he seems to be on a mission to expose the lie they’ve all been living. He features in a few shots, notably climbing a ladder deeper into the inner workings of a Vault.

Another shot of a Vault dweller in a 33 jumpsuit can be seen leading a group of Vault 31 dwellers over a sand dune — it’s unclear if this is Norm, or if this is a post-bombs but pre-series flashback look at even more of Bud’s Buds and how they became cryogenically frozen (notably, cryostasis was also the main experiment of Vault 111 from Fallout 4).

…While Hank MacLean Still Has the Power Armor

The Ghoul asks Lucy what she’ll do when she catches her father. She replies that she wants to bring him to justice. But for now, Hank MacLean is still at large, seen walking through an emptied office building while wearing his stolen T-60 armor. While we’re not exactly sure what he’s doing in New Vegas yet, it likely has to do with the mysterious Mr. House (played in this season by Justin Theroux). House was part of the Vault-Tec Board whose decisions led directly to the outbreak of nuclear warfare.

Pre-War scenes also show Hank being outfitted with a gold Pip-Boy of his own and conducting some ill-fated experiment on a mouse. It looks like we’ll be getting even more insights into his, as well as Cooper Howard’s, histories that shed more irradiated light on the events of the present.

The Ghoul Is Also Looking for Family

Our rugged, jaded bounty hunter may constantly dog on Lucy about her “daddy” and his part in this mess, but he’s not the only one looking for family — family who also had a hand in the end of the world, no less.

Flashbacks to before the Great War throughout the first season showed the growing schism between the classic Hollywood actor and the growing creep of Vault-Tec control amid fears of communism in the United States in 2077. His wife Barbara and his daughter Janey have yet to be seen in the post-bomb present of the show, but were the centers of his world in the past. Barb even had a hand in the disaster that ensued, sitting on the board of Vault-Tec despite Cooper’s increasing concerns.

With the MacLeans forming one side of the messed up father-daughter dynamic, the Ghoul’s hope to find Janey 200 years later serves as an interesting mirror. While Lucy’s journey is all about how much she can remain true to herself while living in the harsh and horrible world her father has created, the Ghoul seems to be an exercise in how far you can go, how much you can lose of yourself, in pursuit of what you love most.

There’s a War Coming

The Brotherhood of Steel also features prominently in this trailer, as a deep voice warns our characters that a war is coming. This techno-militaristic faction is more than equipped for battle, as Vertibirds and aircrafts are seen soaring over the Wasteland vistas and docking at Brotherhood bases. These scenes even show the return of aspirant Dane, who sacrificed their shot at squirehood for Maximus last season. Audiences also got a quick look at Kumail Nanjiani, though his character details remain unclear. He seems to be affiliated with the Brotherhood in some form, however.

But a war isn’t one-sided. While previous trailers and posters have given fans more looks at the slavers known as Caesar’s Legion, this new trailer also gives some additional quick glimpses of the New California Republic’s iconic rangers, suited up and ready for action. Macaulay Culkin can also be spotted possibly killing one of the armored members of Caesar’s Legion, but nothing else is known about his role at this time.

As for the manner of incoming conflict, if the many splatters in the trailer are any indication — there will be blood!

And More!

The trailer shows so many split-second looks at new and returning characters, creatures, and locations. Let’s run through some of them right now:

• Steph Harper, Lucy’s blonde Vault dweller friend (who had a baby in season 1), makes an appearance running down the corridors of a Vault while in a wedding gown. She’s got a matching white eyepatch — could she be getting hitched to MacLean cousin Chet?
• Chet is also seen with Steph’s baby, for whom he has taken a fatherly role following the wedding massacre by raiders.
• The Ghoul also seems to stumble into another Vault that looks abandoned.
• A Securitron that looks suspiciously like Yes Man can be seen firing at a T-60 Power Armor.
• Lucy MacLean loads up a power fist melee weapon.
• Post-War, Mr. House appears in his iconic digital-green interface to greet the Ghoul through a screen.
• Current Vault 33 Overseer Betty Pearson is being walked through the Vault halls by shadowed (but possibly armored) figures.
• Maximus in a Power Armor suit goes toe-to-toe with a Deathclaw — our first full-bodied look at the monster!
