Viva New Vegas! The Fallout Season 2 Teaser Trailer Drops

The end of the world ain’t over yet. After dropping a new poster and production stills over the last week, Prime Video has given fans our first look at Fallout Season 2, and it’s glorious.

Lucy MacLean, the Ghoul, Maximus, and CX404 (Dogmeat!) are all back, continuing their journeys through the Wasteland after the, well, fallout of the Season 1 finale — Hank MacLean has run off to the Mojave region with Maximus’ T-60 Power Armor, the Brotherhood of Steel beat back Lee Moldaver’s New California Republic soldiers, and cold fusion technology has successfully been catalyzed thanks to the chip smuggled from the Enclave in the back of Wilzig’s head.

Fallout Season 2 Teaser Trailer

Even though it’s just the first tease, this trailer is chock-full of hints at what fans can expect from the new season, with plenty of iconic nods to Fallout: New Vegas. We hope you put your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points into Perception — let’s take a closer look at some of the biggest reveals.

Mr. House and the New Vegas Strip

Recast after a brief appearance in Season 1, the enigmatic, enterprising capitalist Robert Edwin House, also known as Mr. House, is front and center in this teaser trailer. Actor Justin Theroux (recently seen in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) now steps into the role as the founder and CEO of RobCo Industries and the primary operator of New Vegas.

In the Fallout universe, RobCo is known for producing not only the ever-useful Pip-boys, but also dozens of the main robotic allies and antagonists seen throughout the Wasteland — such as Assaultrons, Eyebots, Protectrons, and even Liberty Prime. RobCo dominates the robotics, aerospace, and software industries.

The Fallout Season 2 teaser trailer re-introduces his presence in the pre-war world (after he was shown working in partnership with Vault-Tec) as he meets with Cooper Howard. Sitting amid an array of computer terminals and security screens in his casino tower, Mr. House claims that he is the very best at what he does. And what he does … no no, he’s not Wolverine. His job, as he claims, is to “know everything.”

With all the security and surveillance technology at his disposal, this isn’t much of a surprise. How he uses this information, though, remains to be seen. Voiceover in the trailer seems to imply he’s largely behind the war that destroyed the world.

Dinky the T-Rex

Welcome to scenic Novac, a desert oasis town built around a motel (its name comes from a broken No Vacancy sign). New Vegas fans will certainly recognize this settlement for its unique monument, Dinky the T-Rex (inspired by the real-world Mr. Rex and Dinny the Dinosaur roadside attractions).

In the teaser, we see Lucy, the Ghoul, and Dogmeat taking on enemies beneath the dino’s watchful eye — and Lucy even provides sniper cover from its mouth! This iconic Fallout monument is a fan-favorite, which leads us to wonder if we’ll be seeing the Dino-Bite Gift Shop in the series as well.

Caesar’s Legion

Also known as just The Legion, Caesar’s Legion is one of the main factions a player can interact with in Fallout: New Vegas. Hell, they’re so well known that they’ve even got their own Magic the Gathering Commander deck! This ruthless slaver society is recognized for their imperialist attitudes towards taking over the Wasteland, led by Edward “Caesar” Sallow in a prolonged conflict against the New California Republic.

They’re shown in the trailer in a few brief shots, while Lucy seems to be following a warrior (though she doesn’t appear to be bound like she so often was in Season 1 following the Ghoul). Then, an entire group of Caesar’s men can be seen giving a rallying war cry. Given that we’ve already had the NCR introduced under Moldaver’s guidance, and that the Brotherhood’s overlaying dialogue mentions a war on the horizon, it’s likely Caesar will serve an antagonistic role in the coming action.

Lucky 38 Casino and Gomorrah

While we’ll be seeing New Vegas as it exists post-Great War, we are also given flashbacks to this veritable Sin City in its prime thanks to flashbacks to Cooper Howard’s (now the Ghoul’s) past. Pre-war, the Lucky 38 Casino was Mr. House’s bastion for controlling the New Vegas Strip. At some point even before the bombs dropped in 2077, however, Mr. House closed it to the public and sealed himself inside with a legion of Securitrons to keep out organic life. We see a brief shot of Cooper Howard inside riding a mechanical atom bomb (à la a mechanical bull) amid a crowd of high rollers.

Additionally, we get a shot of the exterior of the present day Gomorrah Hotel and Casino when Lucy and the Ghoul set something ablaze on its front doorstep. In addition to gambling, the biblically-named joint is well known for offering sleazy prostitution services. Run by the Omertas, one of the Three Families of the New Vegas Strip, it represents some of the most truly vile aspects of humanity left in the Wasteland. Speaking of…

Return of the Chicken … Lover

“Let’s get lucky, shall we?” You’re going to need all the Luck stat you can get when dealing with this dubious doctor. Jon Daly returns in the teaser as the Wasteland snake oil salesman who was introduced after being quite fowl to a poor farmer’s chickens in Season 1.

He also gave Squire Thaddeus the “miraculous” cure that fixed the gaping wound in his throat after being shot with an arrow towards the end of the season. It seems we’re not done with his strange elixirs and their side effects just yet!

The Deathclaw

The Wasteland’s apex predator was teased as just a set of bones in the end of Fallout Season 1, but our Season 2 teaser gives us a closer look at one of these monstrosities in the flesh. In a Jurassic Park-esque sequence, we first see the claws of the aptly named Deathclaw before getting a dark look at its snorting face. Lucy asks the Ghoul how to handle the situation, and he just starts running! Good answer, I would have done the same.

Deathclaws are genetically engineered reptile monsters, but also they’re just the scourge of wastelanders (and clean, unsoiled pants) everywhere. They are relentless, aggressive, and designed for maximum lethality. While they were initially intended to be a “superior breed of soldier,” their creators lost control of them and the population boomed, especially in the Mojave region. Something something too busy wondering whether or not you could…

And More!

In brief flashes, we can also spot scenes that look like the introduction of a radscorpion (eating a radroach?), a corporate office filled with radroaches terrorizing individuals wearing Vault 31 suits, and even a slow-motion shot of Lucy’s bullet leaving its gun much like the V.A.T.S. (or Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) that aids players in launching critical attacks during video game combat.

There is also plenty of Brotherhood of Steel involvement in the trailer, showing new allies and incidents awaiting Maximus upon his return to the theocratic military faction of the Wasteland. The airship known as the Prydwen, as well as numerous Vertibirds and T-60 Power Armor suits, are seen in action. And while the Brotherhood’s aim is to reclaim pre-war technology and keep a dubious ‘peace’ in the Wasteland, more remains to be seen of their story.

Also, seriously, what happened to Squire Thaddeus after his bizarre encounter with the quack (or cluck?) doctor’s mysterious serum? Is he becoming a ghoul? A supermutant? Something even stranger? We’ll just have to wait until December to find out!

Is there a Fallout Season 3 Coming?

Yes! In addition to Fallout Season 2’s December release, earlier this year the cast confirmed they’ve been renewed for a third season. The end of the world really ain’t over yet, so expect Season 2 to add just as many questions to the story as it answers.
