Happy spooky season to all who celebrate! It’s the most wonderful time of the year in my book, and there’s nothing better than watching all your favorite Halloween-themed media to get in the spirit. If you’re on the hunt for Marvel TV episodes to add to your watchlist, look no further than this list of six selections that’ll thrill, chill, and make you want to hop on a broomstick and (lovingly) terrorize your neighborhood.
“Death’s Hand in Mine,” Agatha All Along
“Down, down, down the road. Down the Witches’ Road…”
Admittedly, it’s hard to pick an Agatha All Along episode specifically for Halloween viewing. The whole series screams “Halloween” to me. It’s packed to the gills with references to witchy media and horror movies.
However, I have a soft spot for the show’s seventh episode, “Death’s Hand in Mine.” It’s the swan song for the inimitable Patti LuPone’s Lilia Calderu, who faces down her final trial on the Witches’ Road. We also get more backstory for the ancient witch, complete with nods to The Wizard of Oz as our titular Agatha dons the Wicked Witch of the West’s garb and Calderu sports Glinda the Good Witch’s attire.
Meanwhile, the Teen, who was earlier revealed to be Billy Maximoff, dresses like Maleficent, and he completely pulls it off, kids.
“Death’s Hand in Mine” is a poignant, propulsive, and flat-out entertaining affair, and the perfect sendoff for the Queen of Drama (LuPone, that is).
Werewolf By Night
Marvel tries on classic black-and-white horror for size with 2022’s special presentation, Werewolf By Night. At the time, it was unlike anything the MCU had done, and I hope we revisit this part of the canon someday.
There’s a genuine love for vintage monster movies in Werewolf By Night, along with a high-stakes narrative as monster hunters gather to engage in a deadly competition. The prize? An ancient and powerful relic. I adore the magical and mystical side of the MCU, so, needless to say, I love Phase Four and its focus on this aspect of the sprawling Multiverse.
Werewolf By Night keeps its foot on the gas throughout its 54-minute runtime, providing an equal balance of action, character work, and delightful horror. Be sure to watch this one with the lights off for the ultimate spine-tingling experience.
“Asylum,” Moon Knight
I’m a simple girl: I see Oscar Isaac in something, I watch Oscar Isaac in that something. Moon Knight is a genre-bending series that blends dark fantasy, super hero, thriller, and psychological drama elements for a tense watch from beginning to end. It also digs deep, with plenty of grace and understanding, into mental health and main character Steven Grant’s dissociative identity disorder.
“Asylum,” the miniseries’ penultimate outing, feels like a standalone horror movie, in a way. It’s a cerebral watch, delving into Steven and Marc Spector’s memories to uncover the truth with a psychiatric hospital as the primary backdrop. The episode incorporates nonlinear storytelling as we fall headfirst into those memories, bolstered by an award-worthy performance by Isaac, who plays both characters.
Moon Knight’s fifth episode concludes on a massive cliffhanger, leading us into an exciting finale. Marvel, if you’re listening, please give us a second season.
“What If… Zombies?!” What If…?
Really, you could watch all of Marvel Zombies for the ultimate Marvel Halloween experience, but I wanted to include the episode that started it all: What If…?’s “What If… Zombies?!”
This episode from the show’s first season helped launch Marvel Zombies in its animated form. Here, the Avengers succumb to a global zombie plague as the survivors fight tooth and nail for a cure. It’s like the MCU’s answer to The Walking Dead.
While the zombie craze dominated the 2010s and seemingly died out in the 2020s, I’ll always be Team Zombie. The brain-craving undead are a traditional Halloween staple, after all, along with vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. What If…? delivers a cohesive, gripping story filled with a who’s who of Marvel’s biggest heroes and genuinely fun action. Zombie Scarlet Witch is a mood.
“Generation Why,” Ms. Marvel
Okay, this might not seem like a Halloween watch, but walk with me here. Ms. Marvel’s premiere episode whisks the intrepid Kamala Khan away to AvengerCon, which she attends dressed as her hero, Captain Marvel. Halloween is a nerdy holiday, in my humble opinion. What’s nerdier than going to an event full of dedicated cosplayers?
AvengerCon is Marvel’s in-universe SDCC, and it’s fun seeing all the merch for our favorite heroes in Ms. Marvel. I also love watching Kamala, who daydreams of meeting Carol Danvers and living beyond the confines of her “boring” life, discover she has superpowers while dressed as a super hero.
This episode is bursting at the seams with heart and humor, and it lays the groundwork for a delightful narrative to come.
“All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” WandaVision
WandaVision is probably my favorite series among the MCU’s live-action Disney+ offerings (with Loki being a close second). The thrilling miniseries is a loving homage to American sitcoms while serving as a puzzle-box mystery that, at its core, really tugs at the heartstrings.
“All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” has a blast playing in its 2000s comedy setting while crossing into bona fide horror territory as Vision uncovers what Wanda has done to the poor residents of Westview. Evan Peters also reprises his role as Pietro from the Fox X-Men films, delivering a charming turn as the lazy-but-fun uncle to Wanda and Vision’s powerful twin boys.
This one is a love letter to all ’90s kids who grew up loving Disney’s Halloween catalog and to these characters’ OG comic book costumes. It has a permanent spot in my Halloween watch rotation.
