Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars Series Announcement

During the recent Disney Investor Day, Marvel Studios announced a brand new Disney+ series called Armor Wars. The series was announced along with a series of other shows, including Ironheart, Secret Invasion, and more.

Marvel’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to explore the legacy that Captain America left behind, and how difficult it is to fill his shoes of someone so iconic. And in that same vein, multiple shows (Ironheart) and films (Spider-Man) are exploring the legacy and fallout of Tony Stark’s life. Armor Wars will see one of Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when Stark Tech falls into the wrong hands?

Fans got a glimpse of his fear coming true in Iron Man 2, when the US military and international arms dealers around the world were attempting to recreate and modify the Stark Tech that they were able to steal. However, despite Hammer Tech’s best attempts at replicating the Iron Man suit, it fell short. Iron Man and War Machine handled the threat together. Even then, they weren’t up against the most advanced suits of armor — they were only up against cheap knockoffs.

This time, War Machine is going to have to face down the real deal. Stark Tech is in the wrong hands, and while we don’t know what they plan to do with it, we already know it can’t be good.

Armor Wars, as stated in their announcement, is a classic Marvel Comics story. The story arc appeared in Iron Man #225-#231 from December 1987 to June 1988. The event’s tagline was, “TIME FOR THE AVENGER TO START AVENGING.” because in the original story, it was Iron Man and Rhodes against the suit thieves. With Rhodey alone, the war might be even messier.

Marvel confirmed that actor Don Cheadle will reprise his role as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, AKA War Machine. Beyond his role, no further casting or plot news is available at this time.

Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars has no release date, but will eventually premiere on Disney+.
