6 Marvel TV Episodes & Movies for Halloween Vibes

Happy Spooky Season to all who celebrate! As the last dregs of summer vanish into the ether, giving way to crisp autumn days, we’re legally obligated to revel in all things Halloween (I don’t make the rules; I just enforce them).

If you’re a geek, this is your time to shine. And if you’re a Marvel fan, there’s plenty of content to get you in the mood for the creepy and the kooky. Currently, Agatha All Along is taking Marvel audiences for a bewitching ride into the unknown. As we wait for Agatha Harkness’ journey to wrap up, here are six Marvel things to watch that give off all the Halloween vibes.

“All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” from WandaVision

This one doesn’t just emit Halloween vibes; it’s all the Halloween vibes. WandaVision’s “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” is the perfect blend of campy Spooky Season fun and genuinely spine-tingling moments. I love the nod to ’90s sitcoms and Wanda and Vision’s comic-accurate Halloween costumes.

Additionally, the outing includes a delightful guest stint from Evan Peters’ Pietro Maximoff. Peters’ iteration of the character isn’t part of the MCU canon, making this Pietro switcheroo with Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver a great twist.

WandaVision’s Halloween episode marks a pivotal turn in the show’s overarching narrative as Vision discovers the outside world beyond Westview and Wanda’s inadvertent creation of the Anomaly. Plus who can forget Vision’s nightmare-inducing death and part of Westview transforming into a carnival? Does it get more Halloween than that?

Werewolf By Night

Marvel’s Werewolf By Night is a beautifully shot homage to old-school monster movies – the first version, which debuted in 2022, is in black and white. Directed by composer Michael Giacchino, the TV special follows a group of monster hunters summoned to Bloodstone Manor. There, they must partake in a hunt to determine who will wield the Bloodstone and succeed the late Ulysses Bloodstone as their next leader.

Gael García Bernal plays Jack Russell/our titular Werewolf by Night, one of the aforementioned monster hunters. Bernal turns in a compelling performance, proving he’s right at home in the horror genre. I hope we see more of him in future MCU projects.

I love how immersive and stylized this special is. It’s a brilliant showcase for Marvel’s creativity and willingness to swing for the filmmaking fences.

“What If… Zombies?!” from What If…?

Marvel’s What If…? is a Multiverse-bending series that asks this simple question: “What if?” With said Multiverse in play, the possibilities for rich, unique storytelling are endless. If you’re looking for a Halloween-esque episode from this show, look no further than season 1 episode 5, “What If… Zombies?!”

Based on Marvel Zombies, a five-issue series that ran from December 2005 to April 2006, the animated TV outing finds the Avengers facing one of their greatest threats yet – a zombie outbreak. How does it all start? An infected Janet Van Dyne brings a quantum virus topside after Hank Pym rescues her from the Quantum Realm.

The episode is an entertaining mix of zombie horror movie elements and comic book hopefulness, with vibrant visuals to boot. I loved seeing an undead Scarlet Witch, in particular.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

What do you get when the director of the first three Evil Dead films is at the helm of a Marvel flick? A genre-bending film that’s as fun as it is spooky. Sam Raimi shakes up the CBM formula by injecting plenty of horror into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Serving as a follow-up to WandaVision, the movie sees Wanda try desperately to bring her sons home from another universe after the destruction of her family in Westview. Doctor Strange steps in to stop her alongside America Chavez (who makes her MCU debut) and Wong.

What transpires next is a trippy (and bloody) pursuit through the Multiverse. At one point, Wanda brutally murders the Illuminati, which includes prominent Marvel figures such as Charles Xavier, Captain Peggy Carter, Black Bolt, Captain Maria Rambeau, and Reed Richards.

I had to add this entry to the list because this is easily the only Marvel movie to commit to its inherent horror aspects. It’s an absolute blast. I mean, dreamwalking into your variant’s corpse, as Strange does in the third act, is pretty on-brand for Halloween.

“Is This Not Real Magic?” from She-Hulk

She-Hulk gets an undeserved bad rap. It’s a cheeky, biting comedy that gives Marvel the opportunity to try on the sitcom format for size, and it works. Season 1 episode 4, “Is This Not Real Magic?” finds Wong, Jennifer Walters’ new client, suing Donny Blaze for using the Mystic Arts sans the proper authorization.

If you’ve watched the episode, one of its best parts is the budding friendship between Madisynn King (played by the hilarious Patty Guggenheim) and her Wongers.

“Is This Not Real Magic?” passes the Halloween vibe check because it’s about – you guessed it – magic, an innate element of Spooky Season. Plus, think of it as a comedic palate cleanser after Multiverse of Madness rips your heart out and stomps on it repeatedly. This series does levity so well.

“Asylum” from Moon Knight

What’s better than one Oscar Isaac? Two Oscar Isaacs. Moon Knight (2022) allows Isaac to put his acting versatility on display while presenting one of Marvel’s darkest narratives yet. Season 1 episode 5, “Asylum,” follows mercenary Marc Spector, who has dissociative identity disorder, and his alter, Steven Grant, as they barrel headfirst into their most painful memories to unearth the truth.

It’s a profoundly personal outing that plays with horror tropes, digs deep into mental health and Egyptian mythology, and presents a stunning array of visuals. Isaac delivers his best performance of the series; he really makes us feel for Marc and Steven.

Additionally, Steven’s sacrifice, which allows Marc to enter the Field of Reeds, sets the stage for a high-octane, thrilling series finale.
