Bold colors, intimidating headgear, and larger-than-life — the Jack Kirby villains of Marvel comics are second to none. Especially to those pesky super heroes!

In honor of Jack Kirby’s birthday, August 28, we’ve put together a selection of a few of his infamous villains created for Marvel comics. Kirby’s designs still influence Marvel villains to this day, even helping shape them into the unforgettable on-screen versions we see in the MCU. We’ve got the Avengers: Doomsday collectibles to prove it!

Jack Kirby’s Villains Take Over the MCU!

From the deepest reaches of intergalactic space to the darkest corners of an evil laboratory, Jack Kirby’s iconic villains continue to wreak havoc upon Marvel’s most famous heroes.

Many of his villains remain in today’s comics as the immortal adversaries of fan-favorite teams like the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Avengers. In live action, Loki’s original green and yellow horned get-up even made an appearance in Loki!

In recent years, we’ve seen more of Jack Kirby’s villains appear in the MCU. Attuma appeared alongside Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Of course, Agatha Harkness returned after WandaVision with her own solo series, Agatha All Along, and the High Evolutionary debuted in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. These two villains are among some of the most unpredictable in Marvel comics, using their immense powers to manipulate as well as orchestrate what can only be described as, well, chaos.

Kang the Conqueror in the MCU

Kang the Conqueror is one of the biggest Kirby characters we’ve seen adapted for the MCU screen. A variant form of Kang, called He Who Remains, appeared in Loki. Then, another Kang popped up in Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, this time known as Nathaniel Richards. However, this time-hopping, variant-coveting villain isn’t the biggest of the bads when it comes to Kirby designs in the MCU. That title belongs to someone a bit more … magical.

Doctor Doom in the MCU

Following a thematic restructure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Doom is now the overarching super-villain who will close out Phase Six, otherwise known as the ending of the Multiverse Saga. That’s a lot of responsibility for one character to shoulder — but if anyone can do it, it’s Doom.

In the comics, Victor Von Doom was the volatile colleague of Reed Richards before assuming control of his home country, Latveria, and embracing the dangerous intersection of science and sorcery. Up on the big screen, with the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the new villain, it’s a maddening mystery how Doom will fit into the existing narrative of the MCU. Is he friend? Foe? Some kind of nefarious mix of the two? Most likely it’s foe, but theories abound throughout the Multiverse. Fans will just have to wait and see in Avengers: Doomsday and the subsequent Secret Wars film.
