The Final Girl Support Group Adaptation

Deadline confirmed Paramount Skydance Corporation is developer a feature film adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s novel The Final Girl Support Group. “From chain saws to summer camp slayers, The Final Girl Support Group pays tribute to and slyly subverts our most popular horror films—movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream.” Director Christopher London, known for working on Paranormal Activity, will direct this project.

Biological War: A Scenario Adaptation

Variety confirmed that Universal is working with Littleton Road Productions to make a series adaption of Annie Jacobsen’s novel Biological War: A Scenario.

Patrick Macmanus told Variety, “What begins with a routine day leads to the end of the world six days later. But it isn’t ultimately a nihilistic show. Yes. There’s the dark excitement and exploration of the apocalypse. But there’s a parallel story of the instinct to protect and rebuild. A celebration of community and family. The wish-fulfillment of starting the human experiment over again in the hopes of getting it right this time around. The question at the heart and soul of our series isn’t Will we survive? It’s Who can we become?

Macmanus will serve as co-creator and executive producer alongside the author.

Ernest Shackleton Adaptation

Deadline confirmed that Netflix is developing a biopic about Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton.

“The Ireland-born Shackleton was well known for his death-defying attempts to sail farthest to the South Pole. That led to the 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition aboard The Endurance, and the harrowing lifeboat journey to bring rescue to a crew that was stranded when the ship was crushed by ice. Waiting and hoping was a crew that abandoned the ship and was forced to survive for months on ice floes. Shackleton managed to get the crew home in entirety, not suffering a single fatality.”

Phil Barantini will direct the film. Mark L. Smith, who wrote The Revenant, wrote this script as well

Fake Skating Adaptation

Deadline confirmed that Josh Boone, best known for adapting John Green’s novel The Fault In Our Stars, will be adapting a new book. The book comes from author Lynn Painter, and it’s titled Fake Skating.

“Fake Skating is an emotional high school hockey romance about childhood sweethearts whose icy reunion in their hockey-loving hometown unexpectedly thaws when they fake a romantic relationship.”

Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata wrote the screenplay, and director Josh Boone and Knate Lee revised it.
