Ranking Candy from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
This article covers the top 10 candies and chocolates in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971).
What’s better than chocolate on a holiday? Strange and wonderful candy any day of the year, of course! Why settle for just a day of sweet treats when you could enter a world of pure imagination from Willy Wonka? There’s nothing to it.
As is to be expected with a prolific sweets factory, Wonka has created plenty of options that are appetizing yet perhaps a little ordinary. Strawberry Flavoured Chocolate Coated Fudge, Wonka Fudge Mallow, even edible teacups, all sound great but I’m focused on the confections that challenge imagination. Don’t worry, I’m qualified — I’ve had my fair share of cavities.
Here’s the top 10 ranking of candies in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory:
- Chocolate River
- Golden Eggs
- Merengue Mushrooms
- Lickable Wallpaper for Nurseries
- Chewing Gum Meal
- Everlasting Gobbstoppers
- Fizzy Lifting Drinks
- Wonka Bar
- Exploding Sweets for Your Enemies
- Scrumdidilyumptious Bar
10. Chocolate River
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? No.
- Dangerous? Yes.
In theory, a river of liquid chocolate sounds like a dream come true. Yet the real world brings with it the need for sanitary practices — and when you’ve got nuisances like Augustus Gloop on the loose, rules aren’t usually followed. This one might be best left on the drawing board.
9. Golden Eggs
- Delicious? Maybe.
- Practical? Sorta?
- Dangerous? Maybe?
Much like the Chocolate River, this candy sounds fun and delicious at first. But if you think about it too closely … who really wants a chocolate egg laid by a bird that came from who knows where? It must have been a wild goose chase nailing down the health permits for this factory.
8. Merengue Mushrooms
- Dangerous? No.
- Delicious? Maybe.
- Practical? Yes.
Now this one is all a matter of taste. Some people don’t like mushrooms, others aren’t fans of merengue. Combining the two is a bold choice but then again, Willy Wonka is no stranger to bold choices. The man is trusting a child to run his factory, after all.
7. Lickable Wallpaper for Nurseries
- Dangerous? No.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
Finally, a reason to stay inside all day. Though the name implies this product might be intended for younger audiences, it’s a fun idea at any age. Especially when the snozzberries really taste like snozzberries!
6. Chewing Gum Meal
- Dangerous? Yes.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
Was anyone clamoring for a multi-course meal in the form of chewing gum? Probably not unless your name is Violet Beauregarde. But it still sounds fun to try, even if there are still some issues to work out with dessert. If blue is your color then this is the treat for you!
5. Everlasting Gobbstoppers
- Dangerous? No.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
It does sorta feel like this endeavor might not wield the most longterm capital for Wonka. After all, if it lasts forever, why do customers need to return? However, a sweet like this would be perfect for long car rides or extended stays in the waiting room. Maybe they can even be stored for repeat chewings!
4. Fizzy Lifting Drinks
- Dangerous? Yes.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? No.
Who among us hasn’t fantasized about floating into the air, far above their troubles? Just make sure to check out beforehand what the ceiling situation is like — not every roof has an escape hatch.
3. Wonka Bar
- Dangerous? No.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
Say what you will that this is a basic choice, but the dream of unwrapping a wonderful piece of the finest chocolate in the world is only made better by the chance you’ll find a Golden Ticket too! Sometimes the fantasy makes the taste even better than you thought possible. Bonus points if you supersize it with a Wonkavision device.
2. Exploding Sweets
- Dangerous? Yes.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
Think of the possibilities! I’m not saying you should send these to your enemies and watch from afar but … how satisfying would that be? On the other hand, accidental explosions would surely cause chaos. RIP to your pockets and/or bag.
1. Scrumdidilyumptious Bar
- Dangerous? No.
- Delicious? Yes.
- Practical? Yes.
What’s in a name? That which we call a Scrumdidilyumptious Bar, by any other name would certainly be easier to say and spell. Still, you can’t help but imagine this Wonka confection tastes out of this world, far too delicious to simply be “yummy.” It needed a whole new word to accurately describe it! Plus, the elongated shape is much easier to munch for an on-the-go snack.
Fortunately, these are by no means the only candies available from the (in)famous chocolate factory. And there are even more delightfully dangerous delicacies to explore in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as Wonka, starring TimothĂ©e Chalomet.
