Sideshow’s Favorite Movies for 2016
As 2016 draws to a close, the lists and retrospectives start popping up. In the spirit of giving and sharing, (and our love science fiction and fantasy), here’s a list of some of our favorite movies of the year.
10 Cloverfield Lane
We thought we were getting a sequel to Cloverfield, but we got something much more fun ââ an anthology film set in the Cloverfield universe. The film not only delivered on its own but opened up all sorts of possibilities for future movies.
Arrival
Like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Arrival captured our hearts and imaginations. How can we not love a movie that filled us with this much wonder?
Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Talk about a movie that made an impact on the year. Debated by fans and critics alike, BVS: Dawn Of Justice pitted the two superheroes against each other in epic scale and also introduced us to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
Captain America: Civil War
We knew it was coming. The Marvel superhero fight that had been brewing across multiple movies came to a head and we loved it. Whether you’re Team Cap or Team Iron-Man, everyone can agree that this movie had some amazing moments.
Deadpool
Like Deadpool himself, this movie turned out to be a funny, crass, and unconventional superhero movie we can’t help but love. Of course, we don’t love it more than Deadpool loves himself, but that’s a pretty high bar.
Doctor Strange
What can we say, this movie blew (and bent) our minds. Spectacular action, events, and performances made this one of our top movies of the year.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
As dedicated Potterheads, we were happy to dive back into the world and take a trip across the pond to 1920’s New York City. Plus, Nifflers. How can you not love that?
Ghostbusters
The all-female Ghostbusters team won our hearts and inspired little girls everywhere to study science and science fiction. It also inspired several of the Sideshow ladies and we’re a little worried about what some of them are building in their spare time.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
The first standalone Star Wars movie gave us new heroes, new villains, new ships, and really put the War in Star Wars. We’ve already added Jyn, Chirrut, K-2SO, and several troopers to our store. Stay tuned for more details on what’s on the way.
Star Trek Beyond
From the first trailer, we knew Star Trek Beyond was going to be different than any other Star Trek film before it and it was beyond what we could have hoped for.
Suicide Squad
Good guys, bad guys, who cares when you get this many great DC characters together to create the legendary Suicide Squad. Harley, Joker, Deadshot and the rest of the team break the rules, blow things up, and create a general anarchy you can’t help but appreciate.
Warcraft
Once upon a time, there was Warcraft, a game that became a sensation and spawned an MMORPG played all over the world. Durotan, Gul’dan, Orgrim, Wrynn, Lothar, and other names from Warcraft lore came to life in this epic film and battled to save Azeroth. Lok’tar Ogar! For The Alliance!
X-Men: Apocalypse
Bryan Singer’s newest X-Men movie was larger than life and offered action on a grand scale. Facing an almost literal god and the Four Horseman, Charles Xavier and his students gathered to fight for the world and to save Magneto’s life. It’s hard not to enjoy these many X-Men characters in one place and battling it out.
