Sideshow’s Week in Geek: We Can’t Wait for Captain Marvel!

Movie releases have become bigger and more epic as the years pass, thanks largely in part to the fan culture surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This epic, “it’s all connected” franchise has turned lesser-known superheroes into household names and has turned movie outings into all-out events as fans flock to the theater to see what latest developments have formed in the world of Marvel heroes and villains.

March 8th, International Women’s Day, marks the domestic release of Marvel Studios’ 21st behemoth project, Captain Marvel.  Teased in the end credits of Avengers: Infinity War and hinted to be a key player in Avengers: Endgame, audiences the world over are about to meet Carol Danvers and learn just what it means to go higher, further, faster.

This week we asked Sideshow staffers to share their excitement for the opening weekend of Captain Marvel, their favorite characters, and more…

Firstly, Sideshow Susan shared these incredible images from the Hollywood premiere of Captain Marvel during her takeover of Sideshow’s official Instagram account. Check out all the dazzling celebs who shone brighter than a Hala star at the event!

What are you most excited about for the release of Captain Marvel?

“I already saw it!” –Susan

“Getting to see Captain Marvel on the big screen for the first time, getting to see Brie Larson’s Marvel premiere, and just getting to see another MCU movie!” –Brendan

“Seeing another strong female superhero kick butt, and on International Woman’s Day!” –Agali

“I’m excited to find any clues possible to the fate of my favorite Avengers (in the future).” –Chris

“Taking my daughter to see the movie! She was Captain Marvel for Halloween, and her excitement for it has been infectious for our whole family.” –Dennis

“I’m so very excited to see this incredible character take her place in the MCU.  I’ve loved Carol’s journey in the comics for a long time, and can’t wait for the world to love her too!” –Kitty

“I don’t really know the entire story so I am excited to see how the movie play out! I really liked the trailers and I think the special effects will be amazing.” –Jennifer

Have you read any Captain Marvel comics in anticipation of the movie?

“No, I have not read any of the Captain Marvel comic books.” –Jennifer

“Yeah!  Definitely re-read some old stuff, and picked up some new stuff.  The recent ‘Life of Captain Marvel’ series Marvel published did a great job at summing up her history (and giving her some new history!) ahead of the film.  You can learn more about it in our Captain Marvel Then & Now podcast!” –Kitty

“Nope – I’m movie only.” –Chris

“I’m currently reading (and loving!) the current Kelly Thompson run.” –Susan

Which character are you most looking forward to seeing on screen?

“Well, besides Goose the kitty cat, Carol herself in an amazing film. Also, Nick Fury before the eye patch.” –Agali

“Captain Marvel, of course!” –Chris

“I LOVE GOOSE.” –Susan

“Well, of course Carol herself! But also seeing Fury and Agent Phil Coulson back on the big screen hits the nostalgic feels.” –Dennis

“Right now, Nick Fury, but that changes. Sometimes the cat…the Kree…the Skrull…Jude Law… ” –Jennifer

“Gotta go with the obvious. Captain Marvel. I have a strange feeling we might get to see Thanos in this film to get more backstory to his line about not fulfilling his destiny once before. So that would be rad too!” –Brendan

“I’m most looking forward to seeing the friendship between Carol and Maria Rambeau- hoping for a Monica Rambeau cameo (or more!) as well!” –Kitty

Are you seeing the film opening night?

“Yes!” –Chris

“No, I will see it opening day.” –Jennifer

“I’m seeing it Thursday, and then again Friday… and maybe again on Sunday!” –Kitty

“I am seeing the film on Friday. I am unfortunately not seeing it on Thursday night.” –Brendan

“I will be seeing it this Friday! My daughter is a little jealous I will be watching it first without her.” –Agali

Anything else you’d like to add?

“Wheeeeeeeeee! So excited!” –Jennifer

“Ever since the end credits of Avengers: Infinity War, when Captain Marvel is paged for help, everyone was left with a sense of hope after such a bleak cliffhanger. Really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.” –Dennis

“Higher, further, faster, baby!” –Kitty
