Meet the Mandalorians of Star Wars™: The Mandalorian Season 1

In Star Wars™: The Mandalorian, we learn just a bit more about Mandalorian culture and community through the very narrow lens and visor of The Mandalorian, the name that the refers to an infamous, mysterious member of a Mandalorian clan, whose real name is Din Djarin.

However, Din Djarin is certainly not the only ‘Mando’ character that we meet throughout the series. Let’s take a closer look at three characters who walk the way of the Mandalore that we connected with in Season 1 of the hit series on Disney+.

The Mandalorian

Din Djarin was a young boy when his home planet was attacked by Separatist droids who killed many, including his parents. He was orphaned, but rescued by a Mandalorian warrior and was raised as a foundling even though he was not originally from the world of Mandalore.

He was trained to become a Mandalorian warrior and joined the Tribe led by the Armorer, though this group was eventually forced into hiding during the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Mandalorian made a name for himself with the Bounty Hunters’ Guild, taking the most difficult and well-paying bounties.

All of his hard work was to pay his way to becoming a true Mandalorian warrior, equipped with a Jet Pack, Amban sniper rifle, and more. The most important and expensive step was the signature metal native only to the once-thriving planet of Mandalore: Beskar Steel. The Mandalorian worked tirelessly to gain his Beskar Steel, and even earned his own Mudhorn Signet, representative of the challenges he faced.

Heavy Infantry Mandalorian

When Din Djarin returns to his clan with more Beskar Steel, he’s confronted by a group of fellow Mandalorians. One of the Mandalorians seems to be cut from a different cloth than the rest of the group. His armor is deeper, with a blue tinge, and the armor appears to be significantly more reinforced than any Mandalorian armor that we’ve seen before.

His name is Paz Vizla. He’s a Heavy Infantry Mandalorian with a seething hatred for the Galactic Empire and anyone affiliated with it. When Din Djarin proves to have coin from the fallen Empire, he gets furious. Only the Armorer can calm his rage.

Even after everything, the Mandalorians protect each other, and when Din Djarin is under fire and needs an escape, the Heavy Infantry Mandalorian risks his own life and saves the former foundling.

The Armorer

The Armorer is perhaps the most unique Mandalorian of them all. She doesn’t appear to be a bounty hunter. In fact, she seems to play the role of a wise leader and matriarch for the seemingly isolated Mandalorian clan. She is calm and collected and a frequent voice for the tradition and culture of Mandalore.

More than that, she was an expert at forging and a skilled fighter. She was creative enough to create several unexpectedly powerful weapons like the whistling birds, an explosive projectile capable of hitting multiple targets. She is the one that eventually deemed Din Djarin worthy of gaining the Mudhorn signet. And she is ultimately the one that sent the Mandalorian on his quest with the Child.
