We all dream of escaping our everyday lives for the excitement and glamour of comic books — it’s alright to admit it. Who wouldn’t want to crusade across the Omniverse in vibrant costumes and fluttering capes? That’s why as you’re planning that next summer vacation, consider the following DC Comics destinations.

Whether you choose Wonder Woman’s birthplace or N. K. Jemisin’s Green Lantern utopia, the following travel spots are the best places to visit this summer. Pack your bags, grab the nearest super hero (we didn’t say they’re all the safest), and apply that sunscreen. It’s time to travel!

Atlantis

Be honest: Haven’t you always wanted to ride atop a gigantic sea turtle? Just imagine it. You’ve finished a refreshing lunch of kelp salad and coral crisps, you’re heading back to the hotel, and your water taxi is instead a turtle ferry that weaves among the currents.

Some say the mad sorcerers of Atlantis are a thing of the past, but you’re sure to find a bit of magic in this underwater kingdom. Stay in the city-state capital of Poseidonis for spectacular domed views of the sea (and maybe an Aquaman sighting) or, for a deep dive into Atlantean culture, try Tritonis.

Themyscira

As far as idyllic island retreats go, you can’t do much better than secluded (and exclusive*) Themyscira. There is always something to do on this Hellenic haven — swimming, archery, horseback riding, archery while horseback riding. The coastlines of Themyscira stretch as far as the eye can see. Plus, the clay pottery classes taught by local experts are said to be the best in the world.

Free from the restraints of a permanent location, Themyscira is sometimes located in the hidden corners of the Mediterranean. Other times it’s among the calming waters of the Bermuda Triangle.

Amusement Mile

Summer vacations aren’t complete without a visit to the theme park! At Amusement Mile in Gotham City, there are lots of helpful attendants willing to throw, er, guide you down the slides. And the Booby Trap is the perfect funhouse attraction to go moonlight rollerskating with your pals — just ask Harley Quinn, Huntress, Black Canary, and the other Birds of Prey.

OK so maybe the food from that hot dog stand is a few years old. And yeah, some of the rides could use a touch up, but there’s charm, right? If you listen closely, there’s also some distant laughing in the background. Like really, really enthusiastic, deranged murderous laughing.

New Genesis

If beautiful utopian gardens and neo-Nordic fashion are your thing, then look no further than New Genesis. This larger-than-life planet is home to the New Gods. It is the perfect place for a delightful afternoon picnic under the shade of the floating capital. Later, head up to the clouds to grab some retro-futuristic duds in Supertown or forage among the greenery with the Bug locals.

However, no matter what the advertisements on the Boom Tube say, don’t make a detour to nearby Apokolips. Darkseid is … not open to visitors.
