Canonically queer characters are our pride and joy. As diversity increases across comics, LGBTQ+ fans are able to see themselves represented in their favorite super heroes, super villains, and antiheroes alike. Because what is representation without a spectrum of powers and moral alignments?

In DC, we have a truly impressive array of people with varying sexualities and identities written into their unchangeable identities. Universes may reset — but the most meaningful elements will always remain. Below, meet some of DC’s most prominent queer characters. This is by no means an exhaustive list, so let us know if we missed your fave!

Jo Mullein

• Full Name/Alias: Sojourner “Jo” Mullein
• Powers: indomitable will

• Fun Fact: Jo was assigned an unnamed sector far beyond Oa. With no official name or number, she simply calls it “Far Sector” — and within it, she protects the City Enduring.

Alan Scott

• Fun Fact: Although he never officially joined the Lantern Corps, Alan still wields a green Power Ring.

• Fun Fact: Before her reboot/rewrite, Batwoman was first introduced in the 1950s as Kathy Kane, a love interest for ladies man Bruce Wayne whose specific purpose was to distance Batman (and Robin) from rumors of homosexuality.

Diana Prince

• Full Name/Alias: Diana of Themyscira/Diana Prince
• Powers: superhuman strength and durability, enhanced senses, immortality, animal empathy and communication
• Sexuality/Identity: Bisexual
• Fun Fact: In Dark Knights of Steel, the princess of Themyscira is in a romantic relationship with the princess of the House of El, Supergirl.

Nubia

• Full Name/Alias: Nubia of Themyscira
• Powers: superhuman strength and stamina, immortality, hand-to-hand combat, swordsmanship
• Sexuality/Identity: Woman-loving-woman
• Fun Fact: She is in a relationship with Io, an Amazonian blacksmith.

Grace

• Full Name/Alias: Grace Choi
• Powers: superhuman strength, durability, and speed/agility
• Sexuality/Identity: Woman-loving-woman
• Fun Fact: Grace is a member of the Outsiders team.

• Fun Fact: Renee and Helena Bertinelli, AKA Huntress, dated and moved in together in the Convergence era. However, Renee and Kate Kane have the most enduring relationship in Gotham.

• Fun Fact: Like his husband Midnighter, Apollo was conceived as an answer to the question, “What if Superman and Batman dated?” The result is a lovely blend of light and dark.
