One Ticket, Please! : Upcoming 2025 Geeky Movies

How soon in advance can you pre-order movie tickets? Because we need to lock down seats for these premieres! Seriously, film fans are in for some sweet treats in 2025 — which is just around the corner, and yes, we’re also wondering where 2024 went.

But if we can look back on anything from 2024 with happiness, it’s the geeky movies that were released along the way. They kept our imaginations running wild and our bellies full of buttery popcorn. Now 2025 is set to do the same. Check out the upcoming releases below.

Wolf Man – January 17

The Universal Monsters are roaring onto the silver screen! In 2025, we’re getting a modern remake of The Wolf Man (1941). Wolf Man is clearly steeped in the same tragedy of the original, wherein a man becomes a monster after a terrifying encounter. Leaning into horror and thriller elements, as it should, the film delivers chills galore with its tense atmosphere and intimate family dynamics. Watch the trailer above then prepare to get scared on January 17.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep – February 11

We can never get enough Witcher! In this animated tale, Geralt of Rivia takes a job in a seaside village to thwart monster attacks. During the job, the Witcher uncovers a dark mystery and age-old conflict between humans and sea folk. Aided by allies including Yennefer and Jaskier, Geralt must navigate peace before it threatens the Continent as a whole. Dive into this thrilling tale in February, only on Netflix.

Thunderbolts* – May 2

The Thunderbolts (team name a work in progress) are a group of rejects and antiheroes who all hate each other just a little bit — or a lot a bit. But this dysfunctional team — including Yelena, Winter Soldier, and Taskmaster — will bring the laughs and the action to this new MCU chapter. Forced to complete shady objectives for the American government, the Thunderbolts take on a new threat that just might be the death of them … if they don’t kill each other first. Thunderbolts* charges into theaters as the final film in Phase 5.

Ballerina – June 6

From the world of John Wick comes Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. In this exciting action flick, a young assassin avenges her murdered family. The trailer promises all the blood, gore, martial arts, and mayhem fans have come to love about the franchise. Plus, Keanu Reeves makes an extended appearance as a mentor figure. After all, the ballerina does come from his own Russian assassin house.

How to Train Your Dragon – June 13

After the epic fantasy trilogy ended, fans thought they’d seen the last of Toothless and Hiccup. But Dreamworks’ How To Train Your Dragon soars onward with a new live-action adaptation. Based on the books and the animated movie series of the same name, this 2025 release will tell the story of a young Viking who starts to see dragons in a new light after a Night Fury crash lands on the Isle of Berk. Mason Thames stars as Hiccup, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25

Marvel’s First Family will hit the big screen once more! Two decades after Fox’s Fantastic Four (2005) premiered, and one decade after the 2015 reboot, these beloved super heroes are getting another shot. This time, they’re entering the MCU. It’s part of Phase 6, in fact! Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach round out this all-star, titular team.

Jurassic World Rebirth – July 2025

Expected in July, Rebirth takes place five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion. The film follows a group of scientists attempting to extract dinosaur DNA from three specific creatures. In theory, the expedition is sent for groundbreaking medical research. But we all know in practice that greed and curiosity can get the better of anyone who experiences the wonders of Jurassic Park…

Avatar: Fire and Ash – December 19

D23 Brazil brought our first look at Avatar 3, including a title and logo reveal. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment in James Cameron’s sweeping sci-fi tale. According to the director, Fire and Ash introduces new cultures and creatures — but the real story lies in character growth. Avatar may be an epic set in outer space, yet at its core, it is about people and survival. What perils will Jake Sully, Neytiri, and family face next? And who will they be at the end of it?

Frankenstein and The Bride – TBA

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein stays firmly rooted in Gothic horror, with a script the director has likened to “Miltonian tragedy” (John Milton was the author of Paradise Lost). Based on Shelley’s novel, the film chronicles the rise and fall of Dr. Victor Frankenstein as he attempts to unbalance life and death. Del Toro seems eager to put underrated gems from the book onto the big screen. We look forward to the haunting result from the creator of such legendary and romantic tales as Crimson Peak.

This is a big year for Mary Shelley adaptations. In addition to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Maggie Gyllenhaal is bringing The Bride of Frankenstein (back) to life in swanky 1930s fashion. The Bride is a drama, romance, and … musical! We truly can’t wait to see these two interpretations of the classic monsters.

Of course, this isn’t every single upcoming movie. How could we cover them all? Nostalgic ’80s viewers will be excited to hear about Karate Kid: Legends, while horror fans are anxiously awaiting The Conjuring: Last Rites. Plus, Disney lovers are feeling the magic with the soon-to-premiere, live-action Snow White. There’s so much coming from DC that we had to give the studio its own blog! Plus, who knows what extra surprises Marvel and Star Wars™ have yet to unveil. One thing that’s for certain — we’ll be spending a ton of time in theaters in 2025.
