Known as the Rogues Gallery, this sinister lineup has grown over the years to include Gotham City’s absolute worst. Each villain in this hallowed group is terrible trouble. Their personas evoke fear much the same way Batman’s cowl does. And when they team up — well that’s when it really gets good.

Across comic books, movies, TV shows. video games, and beyond, these loathsome masterminds have laid endless traps for the Dark Knight. Still, it’s been argued that each one requires the other to give their existence purpose. Whether he’s cracking jokes or cracking skulls, you can be sure it’s never a dull moment with the Clown Prince of Crime.

Under the slippery moonlight, Selina Kyle slinks across the rooftops, always searching for her next high-value target. Those paws love to purloin Gotham’s most coveted treasures yet Catwoman’s greatest stolen prize is Batman’s heart. The Bat and The Cat has always had a nice ring to it.

Two-Face

What was Two-Face’s cruelest betrayal?

Just as tragedy defined Bruce Wayne, so too did fate impose itself upon Harvey Dent. A horrific accident left Gotham’s golden boy DA scarred for life — both physically and mentally. Now, Two-Face leaves everything up to fate with his trusty coin. Except he never leaves fate up to pure chance. Things just aren’t that black and white.

The Penguin

Signature Weapon: Umbrella

Don’t be fooled by his dapper duds. Oswald Cobblepot, AKA The Penguin, is driven by greed. He dabbles in the crime-ridden underworld of Gotham City, using shady funds and shadier schemes to rain on Batman’s parade. There’s hardly a deal made in Gotham that Penguin doesn’t know about. His Iceberg Lounge is a notorious hub of criminal activity.

It’s so hard being the smartest one in the room — just ask Edward E. Nygma, he’ll tell you all about it. This Rogue’s ego is only satiated when he causes others to suffer with his mind-twisting riddles. Talk about a headache. You have to stay at least five steps ahead of The Riddler at all times.

Bane

Bane’s guilty pleasure: Quoting Sex and the City

Underneath that mask is a soul whose only aim is destruction. Bane is the man who broke the Bat, but his Venom-infused muscles aren’t the only weapons he employs against Batman. Surprisingly, Bane is a master manipulator as well. Wouldn’t want to be caught in his clutches no matter how you spin it.

Yet somehow Poison Ivy always returns to her roots in Gotham City — there must be something special in the soil.

Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze’s origin was reimagined for TV.

Of all the Rogues Gallery backstories, Dr. Victor Fries’ tale is possibly the most tragic. But can heartbreak excuse his cold-blooded terror? Batman would say no. Mr. Freeze, on the other hand, believes Gotham is on thin ice. Time to bundle up.

Scarecrow

Scarecrow once unmasked Batman.

While Joker’s laugh gas is definitely dangerous, Dr. Jonathan Crane’s fear toxin is nothing to laugh at — it awakens your deepest, darkest fears. Just one sniff and nightmare becomes reality. Scarecrow doesn’t boast much in the way of strength but his poison can bring even the bravest heroes to their knees.

Harley’s not even a real blonde?!

Dr. Harleen Quinzel knows a thing or two about psychosis — both professionally and personally. Whether she’s palling around with Puddin’ or teamed up with her poisonous paramour, Harley Quinn is one of the most unpredictable Rogues. Did she wake up and choose violence, or is today a day for being an antihero? Perhaps a bit of both.

Man-Bat

Confirmed Man-Bat Collaborator: Wonder Woman

That terrifying screech echoing in the air can only belong to the beast formerly known as Dr. Kirk Langstrom. Now, more animal than man, this inverse of Batman is a terrifying vision of what happens when our feral side takes over. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Man-Bat.

Clayface

Clayface will make his big-screen debut.

Basil Karlo once had a promising film career, but all of that potential was dragged through the mud when he became Clayface. Using his shapeshifting physiology, Karlo can now control every aspect of his appearance. Still, the only starring role he wants is to bring the curtains crashing down on Batman and his associates.

Make no mistake — Gotham City is a grim, dangerous place. There are many more Rogues Gallery villains lurking about. Who could overlook Talia al Ghul and her father, Ra’s al Ghul, or Killer Croc, Mad Hatter, and Hush? Calendar Man is certainly biding his time as well. The list is never-ending and constantly expanding. Newcomers like Punchline are always eager to make a name for themselves.
